Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

Da Man, dyanflash quoted me while I was correcting my mistake. I use 0.3. Yes trellis is a speed hit. I went from 23 to 28 fps to 15 to 20 on my iMac C2D 2.4.

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

dynaflash why no trellis? I have noticed a nice increase in detail with a little in file size. IMHO with how well mb tree keeps the bit rate down while maintaining quality, the extra file size increase is no big deal. Here's my settings. ref=3:mixed-refs=1:bframes=3:me=umh:subq=7:b-adapt=2:8x8dct=1:...

Re: [SVN 2907] Ripped disk returns "No Valid Source" on load

Ripit is the problem. The original developer of ripit disappeard several months ago. The little app factory took it over, and took down the message boards that I and many others were reporting the bug you are describing and many others. Now as far as I can tell all development for Ripit has stopped.

Yeah Safari is absolutely faster. And I swear after upgrading my apple tv to 3.0, my iMac is now reporting that I have a quad core. I don't know how apple does it. :D

Re: [SVN 2845] Audio sync bug

Please DISREGARD this bug report. Sorry if I wasted anyones time. On further inspection this is just a poorly mastered DVD. This is my wife's movie and maybe I didn't test by watching it as well as I could have. :D I went back and found the exact spot where the audio sync issue occurs, and found tha...

I have watched bits of multiple movies just to make sure streaming and play back is working, and it looks and works exactly the same for me.

[Invalid] [SVN 2845] Audio sync bug

I think I found a bug that causes Handbrake to run away or hang. I am trying to encode Bridget Jones Diary and when I get about 5% into the encode it just starts printing the error below over and over until I hit control C. I tried the encode from the disk (using vlc's decrypting library) and ripped...

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

deepsiks, I think the crf of 16 is way to much. I don't think you will see any improvement in quality, but you will get a much higher bit rate and large file size. From all the tests I have run I think going any lower then 19 just makes for a bigger file/higher bit rate with no improvement. I have a...

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

IIRC cabac is required for trellis. So cabac=0 turns off trellis. I used to never use cabac because it made the apple tv struggle on most of my encodes, but I have been using it again lately (so I could improve detail with trellis) and haven't had any problems. I think with the changes (improvements...

Ya know one would think you would have a little bit of a clue of what you are talking about before you post a snarky comment. Having the OpenCL specs is worthless with out having the API and documentation to know how apple has implemented it.

Man Handbrake is the best! With all the improvements in 0.9.3 IMHO there is no better encode tool. Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

I am going to throw in my 2 cents. I think this thread has out lived it's usefulness. I am a relatively new Handbrake user, but not a new user to x264 or encoding in general. I have read this entire thread, and it seems that until the last few posts it has been dealing mostly with x264 pre vaq, psy-...

I tested ch. 9 of terminator and ch. 1 of Forrest Gump with r1802, and unfortunately the same drop out happened in both. I even tried Pulp Fiction and it happened at the end of ch. 1 just before they stand up to rob the coffee shop. I have tried directly from the dvd and from my hard drive on all th...

I would give a pound of flesh and a pint of blood for someone to encode either ch. 9 of terminator or ch. 1 of Forrest Gump, to see if they get the same drop out of the vid and audio issue. I would like to confirm that it is on my end or not.

Well.. tried it without vbv and it still happens. I also tried a new source Batman Begins, and it did the same thing. So far any encode I have tried with the before mentioned settings has dropped out. But, 0.9.2 encodes them fine.

I noticed it in Terminator and Forrect Gump, in multiple places. I just narrowed it down to the chapter to help you trouble shoot. I will try again tonight without vbv. But, both of them didn't do it in 0.9.2 so I don't think it is vbv.

This just made Handbrake my number one encode tool period end of story. I must apologize in advance for the amount of bugs I am going to submit. :)

Compiling svn 1797 now on suse 10.3. Can't wait to start encoding, re-encoding and finding bugs.
