Re: WebM Codec
faac isn't freetard or incredible. In fact it's got copyright issues and is on the crappy side of mediocre. vorbis is both freetard and incredible. It's the only good thing to come out of that lobbying group called xiph. The point is, being free doesn't make it great. The freetards make a habit of ...

Theora is freetard. x264 is incredible. Ogg is freetard. libmp4v2 and libavformat are great.
Now comes a catch 22 for you. What about FAAC? Freetard or incredible?
And Vorbis, freetard or great?

Re: WebM Codec
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Freetard Oh. Thanks. Sounds like a misapplication of the term then. OGM was never proposed for web use by anyone, that was OGG. OGM was a dubious hack by some DVDtards. Some webtards wanted OGG because Theora goes naturally into OGG and it has no royal...

Re: WebM Codec
Another case in point, Handbrake could with good conscience be recommended as the one-stop shop to encoding web videos, if it would encode both H.264 and webm (possibly in auto-batched pairs). Who says HB wants to be that? Certainly not the project leadership. Are you some kind of spokesperson for ...

It isn’t? But it also doesn’t seem to discourage creating videos for the web either.creamyhorror wrote: HB isn't particularly directed toward the creation of web video anyway.

There is libavcodec/aacenc.c in ffmpeg.
I guess it’s to be hoped that this thing matures at one point.

Can you post the patch? I have HAL disabled. It speeds up booting and why load an unnecessary daemon?

Re: The GUI does not work in ubuntu 10.04
This error looks like a problem with 10.04 (process:31552): GStreamer-WARNING **: The GStreamer function gst_init_get_option_group() was called, but the GLib threading system has not been initialised yet, something that must happen before any other GLib function is called. Re: The GUI does not work in ubuntu 10.04
libgudev isn't considered to have a stable API, even in the current releases of fedora and ubuntu ... I know that the API is not stable yet. But at least Ubuntu is pushing hard for removal of HAL and many apps already moved to udev (even packages in Universe not listed here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com...

Re: The GUI does not work in ubuntu 10.04
No need to feel prodded when I leave this here, FYI. I compiled svn trunk on Lucid with all libraries up-to-date. This is printed on startup: $ ghb (process:31552): GStreamer-WARNING **: The GStreamer function gst_init_get_option_group() was called, but the GLib threading system has not been initial...

Re: Alternatives to FAAC
Besides FAAC there is also the open-source aacplusenc . It is based on the 3gpp reference encoder. Apparently it only supports high-efficiency mode (HE-AAC) but it is quite competitive with the commercial contenders when you look at this 48kbps stereo listening test . It might be used to cover the l...

Re: mockup - GTK gui suggestion
John, I like your changes a lot. My nitpick would be that the top level labels (like "Encoding" or "Reference Frames") need about 6px of vertical padding. Maybe give the notebook pages 6px of padding all around. For Reference: 1. http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/con...

Re: mockup - GTK gui suggestion
My take is that the GTK GUI uses way too many etched frames and it could use a lot more padding/whitespace.
Other than that it’s compeltely fine.

Re: Activity.log
How about saving in ~/.config/ghb or in ~/.Handbrake-Activity.log?
The normal user can click the button in the program. You may even point out the location in this window.

Activity.log
Hi, is it the CLI or the GUI that dumps the Activity.log in whichever directory ghb was started? I find it suboptimal that many copies of this file litter my home directory.

GTK Gui: ghb segfaults on exit
Hi, when I close the window ghb segfaults. I made a backtrace with gdb, but I can’t tell if it’s any good.
