Re: 1.4.0 beta seems slower on M1
Just carried out a quick test, M1 version 1.40 to Intel 1.33 carried out on a Mac mini M1. Same video source to transcode, prefix Apple TV 1080 30fps Results: Handbrake 1.4 M1 Encode time 4 minutes, average FPS 59.15 resultant file size 246.8MB Handbrake 1.33 Intel Encode time 7 minutes, average FPS...

Re: Aliens - Special Edition Blu Ray Large File Sizes
Interesting. I've re-done the 720p encode (Apple TV 2 preset) with RF=22 and removing the second audio track. The resulting file is 3.85GB rather than 8.41GB of the first encode. The picture looks fine to me, so I'll re-do the 1080 HD version with Normal preset and RF=22 and see how that turns out.

Aliens - Special Edition Blu Ray Large File Sizes
Just transcoded this blu-ray using High Profile preset (no alterations), also with Apple TV 2 preset (no alterations). Source was an .mkv file produced with MakeMKV on a mac. HB Version 0.9.6 x86_64 (2012022800). No problem with the transcodes and both look great on the respective viewing devices. I...

Quick Question
I'm using HB 64bit MacGUI v3380, VLC 64bit 1.1.0-pre3 Q1 - What does the "Burned In" option on the subtitles tab represent. When looking for forced subtitles do I just tick "Forced Only" and "Foreign Audio Search"? Q2 - When using an MKV file as source ripped by MakeMKV...

Bloody Great
Have to say this - but I've been using SVN 3036 since release and it's great. Coped with Blu-ray, really old poor quality DVD's each time producing excellent results.
Thanks

HD/SD Tag on Apple TV
I've now transcoded a few blu-ray disks for Apple TV (1280 x 720) and also using the Universal preset (so I can use on my iPod). They look good. How do I get iTunes to mark the two versions as one with the SDHD tag and play the appropriate one? This is what happens when I download HD content from iT...

Re: Apple TV HD Playback is sometimes jerky
Yes, RF 21.25 works nicely and the picture looks great (data rate 2928.15 kbits/s, FPS 23.98, size 1280 x 720, stereo 48KHz).
Very occasional jitter, but very mild; a nice watchable result, streamed wirelessly. I'll now re-transcode episode 1-4 of Band of Brothers and gauge the result.

Re: Apple TV HD Playback is sometimes jerky
None of this seems to work for me. Even when connecting the Apple TV via ethernet the picture is still jerky - not as bad as via wifi, but not watchable. I'll re-trascode with RF 22.5 to see if it makes a difference.

Mmm...
Just played episode via iTunes sharing wirelessly to a Macbook pro and it was perfect - no jerky pictures at all - so the network bandwidth must be sufficient to stream. Points the finger back to the Apple TV WiFi.

Re: Apple TV HD Playback is sometimes jerky
Nah... switched to 802.11n (5ghz) and it makes no difference - serious jerky pictures and sound through an external amp is way out of sync - it's like watching a collection of photos shown rapidly - there's movement, but it's not fluid. The Apple TV is the only wireless device all other Mac's connec...

Re: Apple TV HD Playback is sometimes jerky
Quick update. I copied the file to Apple TV and playback is smooth, no jerky behaviour. I'll look at the network; I'll switch to 802.11n for a start.

Re: Apple TV HD Playback is sometimes jerky
How do I get back to old logs (my last transcode - although I've launched HB since) on the Mac?
I've played the output file in Quicktime, and jerky behaviour is not present.

Apple TV HD Playback is sometimes jerky
I've now transcoded 4 episodes of Blu-ray Band of Brothers (episodes 1 - 4). In different episodes I've used the following adjustments to Apple TV preset; 1. Pictures sized to 1280 x 720 (all episodes) 2. Audio DTS 5.1 to stereo (all episodes) 3. Framerate to 24 (2 episodes) "Same as source&quo...

Re: 20gb blu-ray encoded with Apple TV preset only 1.7gb?
You say you only changed the picture size to 1280 x 720 in the Apple TV preset. Couple of questions; 1. What was your average fps when transcoding (approx) 2. Did the file play OK on Apple TV I ask this because I followed the advice on a previous thread and starting with the Apple TV preset I change...

MKV Source vs DVD Rip
Does the fact that a DVD is ripped to an MKV file via MakeMKV (Mac) rather than a straight DVD Rip via Ripit make any difference to Handbrake if the Universal Preset is selected for the transcode - effectively, will the source make any difference to the resultant m4v file. I did a quick test myself ...

Re: What is the best DVD Ripping Program For Mac?
Ripit appears to have been updated today - citing handbrake compatibly fix as one of its changes. I'd never heard of Mac DVDRipper Pro so purchased a copy - seems OK, if a bit slow; does it remove copy protection like Mac The Ripper did , does anyone know.

Re: Universal Preset v Apple TV
I've notice the file sizes for Universal encodes in 0.9.4 have shrunk considerably compared to 0.9.3 anyway. I didn't know the iPod Touch would playback Apple TV encodes now - very interesting.

Universal Preset v Apple TV
First off - 0.9.4 - excellent - keep up the good work. I did a small test of an encode of the same one chapter of a film in Universal and Apple TV presets. When watched on my laptop I couldn't see any difference in the picture quality. Looking at the presets the Apple TV has more options set under t...
