Re: Upgrading from Version 1.0.7 to 1.2.2 disables intel quick sync

Your 1.2.2 logs uses qsv, but you are using decomb and comb detect filters that runs on the cpu.

1. To maintain the same yuv 4:2:2 as handbrake converts it to 4:2:0 when my other software keeps 4:2:2. Can't be done with HandBrake. 2. To convert without encoded and tagged date. Same as above 3. Re: Trying to understand audio track behavior settings

Put an entry with "Auto passthru" and select all the auto passthru options. The encoder settings are for tracks that can't be passhtru and have to be reencoded.

Either the file is invalid or FFmpeg doesn't support the way mp3 is stored in it. Try in ffmpeg and report a bug to them if it happens there too.

Re: Videotoolbox option not available

VideoToolbox doesn't support constant quality mode. You have to set a bitrate. I guess the cli lets select constant quality, and then set a random bitrate or whatever.

Re: Upon start, HB 1.2.2 shows many encoding presets being incorrect -- how much of a problem is this?

No, everything is fine. HandBrake automatically converts presets to the newer format, and then updates the built-in presets.

It's only an issue if you see this each time you start it. It would mean presets can't be saved to disk.

Re: MP4 Part-2 to Something macOS Compatible

Is the sample clip from the Xbox or did you reencode it? Because it plays on QuickTime here. There is nothing outdated in the way Microsoft is using the MP4 container. HEVC support has been added in macOS 10.13 / iOS 11. Reencoding takes time, you can use one of the General preset, or a Production p...

Re: MP4 Part-2 to Something macOS Compatible

It's weird that's not compatible, can you upload a short 10 second sample somewhere so we can have a look at it?

HandBrake right now can't convert HDR to SDR, it might in the future, so the color won't look right when played back.

Re: HB DVD to x265 transcode, colors look "washed out"

He's right, bt470bg transfer function is gamma 2.8, and HandBrake doesn't support it yet (probably because so few DVD-Video used it? Who knows after all this years). And we can't just pass the tag through because it's not supported by modern players. I think there are some plans to add a color space...

Actually you can still access it in 1.2. It's a bit hidden, if you find it you win a cookie.

No, he's right. On macOS it counts 100 for each core.

Anyway, multithreading is hard. And having a bigger image to work on helps because things will take longer and so you have to synchronise with the others threads less often.

Re: Videotoolbox option not available

Set x265 to a faster preset until it's as fast as the hardware encoder in your other Mac.

The hardware encoder is a completely different encoder implemented as an asic in the CPU, it's no just "another" option.

Re: HB DVD to x265 transcode, colors look "washed out"

VLC never tried to display colors correctly. It can do HDR to SDR tone mapping, but nothing more (if I remember correctly, on Mac it was uber broken, never tried on Windows). However, it should not look so different. But you might have better luck asking this question on VLC support forums or irc ch...

Re: washed out colour after UHD to 1080p conversions

HandBrake doesn't use the FFmpeg command line program. So the only way is to modify HandBrake and add the tone mapping filter.

Re: Videotoolbox option not available

Because there is no QuickSync on Xeon cpus, and I don't remember if there is a hardware encoder on the D500, but clearly it's not supported by Apple. With such Mac you will have much better quality and speed by using a software encoder like x264 and x265.

Re: edit font & size of hard coded subtitles

The next major version will let you add an external ass/ssa track. You can try it already if you download a nightly build. If the subtitles tracks is already embedded in the mkv/mp4, there is still no way to change the font.

It looks like hevc in avi is not supported in FFmpeg, or the specific variant your camera is using. Please open an issue on https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake

You can get it from developer.apple.com -> downloads -> more downloads. It's called Atom Inspector. The old one was called Dumpster, probably you can get it from there too.
