Re: iTunes + 1080p + AC3 + Apple TV 2 + Projector.
However, my Apple TV2 still plays 1080p fine, even using the High profile preset with a RF of 22. Can you possibly upload a small video clip using the settings you seem to be successful with? I would love to test it out with my aTV2 before I dive into this whole mess. I'm sure others would like to ...

Re: does grayscale encoding reduce file size?
Why is this "largely unnecessary these days?" Have there been changes to prevent rainbowing? I encoded Casablanca with the grayscale setting, thinking it was the way to do it. Do I need to? I took a look at it and it looks very good. I encoded new AppleTV at 61%.

Re: How do you handle TV shows in your library?
Wow. Thanks for all the tips. I will put some of these to good use. I was already tagging movies, but TV shows are a slightly different beast.

How do you handle TV shows in your library?
These are some general questions to glean more knowledge from the collective brains on this board to see how everyone does this...which I assume will be vastly different from post to post. But, I'm curious because I always think there is a better way to do something (at least, better than what I'm d...

Re: Late 2008 MacBook / MacBook Pro GPU Video Decoding
Ah, that makes sense. So, will Handbrake support OpenCL? I'm sure it is too early to ask...but I just couldn't help myself. Of course, it could be me getting excited because I was using a server at work today to encode to AppleTV at 180+ frames per second! It is good to be the king (well, at least o...

Re: Late 2008 MacBook / MacBook Pro GPU Video Decoding
OK, at the risk of a flame....since this will discuss un-released software... What I read about Snow Leopard is that GPU acceleration will be built into the OS accessible by "any application"...and it is not Quicktime specific. Am I missing something or misreading? I guess I'll have to wai...

Re: Turbo First Pass - general question
Thanks. So, it isn't anything fancy, just turning some stuff off. I thought that might be the case, but I was just curious. All voodoo to me, sometimes! :D Of course, I haven't been able to devote a lot of time to understanding the advanced features. I know myself too well...I can't just go and unde...

Turbo First Pass - general question
I saw a post about turbo first pass which made me wonder something. I know what it does and I fully understand what the first pass does (well, as best as a non-coder, non-video guy can :D )....I actually read the wiki first before I post! My question is more generic....as in how does it work? How do...

Re: [patch] m2ts and Tivo program stream support
This is awesome! As usual, the devs rock. Although I'm a thousand miles away from my house at the moment - quite literally - I can remote in and upload a few more clips if the devs desire. I'll run the .tivo files through the Tivo -> MPEG2 converter and upload. I'll try to pull files from analog cha...

Re: Converting Tivo MPEGs?
Although not at home at the moment, I swore I did that before and it didn't work. I have used the TivoDecoder - part of several third-party Tivo apps on the Mac. Handbrake doesn't like the MPEG2 files that result. Have you had success? I'm pulling these off a TivoHD.

Re: Blockiness in reds?
Will VAQ work with an aTV (my guess is probably not)? Also, any good links about it? It is barely mentioned in the wiki and I would like to learn some more about it.

Blockiness in reds?
I did an AppleTV preset rip of Serenity on my Mac. There is a scene (which most browncoats deny exists...including me! :D ) where it is very dark and bathed in red light. The screenshot below shows how there is some "macro blocking" (wrong term, I'm sure). It is much more evident while in ...

Re: Allow MPEG2 files form Tivo as source
Interesting. I thought the Tivo was just recording the MPEG2 stream "as is". This means it is doing something else. If you would like, I could also upload something recorded from a high-def channel, such as one of the broadcast channels. It will be a bigger file (although I could do a part...

Re: Apple TV help for the newbies
I think the response that you will get form the devs is "use the preset". And, they are right. The preset is very good and is conservative so that you don't have to worry about hiccups. Any of the other discussion about the settings is advanced stuff trying to push the envelope. Plus, Appl...

Re: Allow MPEG2 files form Tivo as source
As usual, you guys move incredibly fast to assess the situation. Thanks for looking into it. I'm not expecting it anytime soon. However, it is good to know that the debs have a basic understanding of the problem. Perhaps if I were to buy TivoHDs for the devs I could speed things up? :) just kidding...

dynaflash has requested a sample. I'm working on that now. It's 330mb, so it will take some time for me to upload it.

Re: Converting Tivo MPEGs?
nightstrm - yes, it is quite easy to pull off recordings...on a PC. On a Mac, it is a bit harder. The open source apps, while heading in the right direction, aren't updated very often and also run into some bugs. I have had several downloads stall. cheezmo - I was hoping to do this all on a Mac...an...

Allow MPEG2 files form Tivo as source
I tried to convert a Tivo MPEG2 ( see link to very short thread ), but it is coming up as invalid source. VLC and VisualHub seem to read it OK. That is not a dig, just a mention that I believe that the Tivo wrapper has ben removed...I would much rather use Handbrake than anything else for this. But,...

Re: Converting Tivo MPEGs?
That sucks. I would much prefer Handbrake over VisualHub. Hmm....maybe I'll add the request for development. But, I doubt you guys will want to pick it up since it is outside of the "core functionality" of Handbrake. But, one can hope. Maybe it is something easy?

Converting Tivo MPEGs?
OK, I have searched the forums, but I haven't found the answer. I apologize in advance if it is there and I missed it. I want to convert some Tivo recordings. I pulled them off my TivoHD various ways - with Tivo Desktop on a PC, TivoDecode Manager on a Mac, and others. Every time I try to select the...
