Re: Video encoded with Apple TV won't play on iPad

Thank you. That did it. I re-encoded it again last night without Closed Captions and it now opens in QT, and actually plays when I sync it to the iPad. Now all I have to do is check the other 140 movie files to make sure they open so I don't run into another problem with a synced movie not actually ...

Is the file extension .m4v? If not, change it to .m4v. And where are your logs? Extension: of course. Log. Re: Video encoded with Apple TV won't play on iPad

Slightly new problem. I downloaded an used 0.9.4 to re-encode over 150 dvds from my library so that I could use them on my iPad and Apple TV and now iPhone 4. None of them are HD or Blu-ray. I have only synced over a handful, maybe 15 or so movies to the iPad for a recent trip. And they were all en...

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=h.264+level http://lmgtfy.com/?q=mediainfo+mac Thank you, I think. Honestly, apart from my frustration, I have to take a moment to thank you. You can't/don't accept any sort of donations for all the work here, yet continue to improve an open-source project and still take the ti...

Re: Video encoded with Apple TV won't play on iPad

My Home Theater IQ just dropped 100 pts. label me noob. I already said I feel less than informed/educated despite being rather competent on a computer compared to most, but given your responses I feel like you are tired of people who may just not get this and some of your responses are great but oth...

Re: Video encoded with Apple TV won't play on iPad

Wouldn't those be from before x264 started to automatically set the lowest appropriate level for an encode instead of defaulting to 5.1? The iPad's tech specs, unlike those of the ATV, explicitly limit support to level 3.1 and lower, so of course those encodes don't sync. It's not like your doing y...

Re: Video encoded with Apple TV won't play on iPad

I found that movies encoded with AppleTV preset prior to 0.9.3 doesn't work with the iPad. Why, I don't know. I think that may be my problem. I encoded about 175 of my DVDs in 2008 with 0.9.2 and though they all play fine on my Apple TV and iMac and MacBook (I went for high bitrate so they are beyo...

Re: Best settings for multiple devices

I am looking to encode for just the iPad and Apple TV. I hope this is the right place to post as opposed to starting a new thread. I get an error message when trying to sync movies to my iPad that play on my Apple TV saying "...was not copied because the video format is not supported by the iPa...

When NOT to use Anamorphic?

I have been ripping my DVDs using HB 0.9.2. For some movies (newer, action) it is very obvious to use anamorphic. They usually say anamorphic widescreen on the box and/or 2.35:1. Movies like LOTR, Batman Begins, Revenge of the Sith, even Sneakers etc. For some movies that are fairly new and in wides...

I have been using the mpeg-4 instead of the h.264 encoding, simply because of the extra time that it's taking with the h.264. It seems, based on the rip's that I've been doing, that the h.264 takes hours longer per dvd. The big problem that I've had so far, is not just the 5.1 audio issue but that ...

I use pretty much the consensus settings here. WHY: Apple TV, no video iPod and if a true one comes out/iPhone release, will wait to see what the specs are for those. PRIORITIES: Quality, file size. Settings: Title: Main Chapters: all File Format: MP4 Codecs: AVC/H.264/AAC Audio Framerate: same as s...

Thank you hawkman , what a great overview and explanation. For me I already knew a bit about most of this, but reading your explanations really gives me a better background. I have been messing around with both Handbrake and now Mediafork, with less than 10 of my DVDs just to see the settings, datin...

Re: Anamorphic encodes

wyvern Thankyou! That is the exact experiment I was hoping someone would perform! Based on your post I think we could conclude that while the Apple TV doesn't handle anamorphic encodes automatically, you can use Quicktime Pro (as outlined in wyvern's post above, or my earlier post) to manually spec...
