The problem with trying to add in this info for existing, already-ripped files is that the chapter marker positioning is frame-specific, and is rather complex in the way it is passed through HandBrake's decode / encode process. The output movie's frame sync is different from the source, so it's not ...

Hi there, How would feature 2 work? How would you be able to create chapters where no chapter info exists? Or are you after more of a manual chapter editor? If that's what you want, then one option can be found here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html As for 1, it's a good i...

Hi all, This is indeed pretty easy to do, and it's the flag as described above. In fact, I very nearly implemented this when working on the audio in 0.8.5b1 (shortly after saintdev fixed multiple audio tracks). The main reason I didn't is that the only player which allows you to subsequently turn tr...

Cvk_b: Thanks for the tests - much appreciated! Sounds like the DTS -> DPLII (in AAC) is mapping correctly all round. I'm not sure about the "DTS -> DPLII in AVI" lack of sound - that should be working, really. I'll take a look. Golias: You're absolutely spot on in all of your assumptions ...

Hi aur0ra,

That's annoying, and may make my prospective ac3-in-mp4 work unsuccessful for normal Apple TV use. It will likely still work with the ATVFiles plugin, however.

rhester, A good argument, and well made :) When time permits, I'll try it again, then. It turned out being harder than anticipated, as liba52 isn't set up to make the LFE available to a dolby downmix, but I'm sure there'll be some way of doing it! cvk_b, I'll double-check the channel mappings. I don...

Hi all, First up, I'm not especially planning to add in LFE for DPL2, for the reasons mentioned elsewhere before - it's inadvisable for a number of reasons. Sorry :( cvk_b, thanks for the tests. I'd like to check a few things if that's okay. You mentioned that you had the center voice coming from th...

Please do test them! I've tried extracting the DTS-ES track on my copy of The Two Towers - Extended Edition, and it seems to work fine, although HandBrake is getting a 5.1 rather than 6.1 mix from libdca. My hope is that the DTS-ES will always be extracted by libdca as 5.1. Just to complicate things...

Gbooker, I'm up for trying to patch HandBrake's copy of libmp4v2 to create audio tracks of type 'ac-3', in order to make HandBrake create mp4 files with AC3 audio passthru. It remains to be seen whether these will be accepted by QuickTime, but I think there's every chance they will be if we're using...

I've just done a whole bunch of testing, and as far as I can tell, the channel mappings are working correctly now for DTS in SVN rev 570. If anyone would like to give it a try, I'd be very grateful!

Hi Kurtz, You can already choose two audio tracks in the CLI and the Mac GUI (in fact, you can choose up to 8 in the CLI). The new DTS code means that on a DVD with both AC3 and DTS, you could convert the AC3 5.1 track to DPL II, and convert the DTS 5.1 track to 6-channel discrete (or vice versa). S...

You don't need to update if you're just using the pre-built contrib libraries. But at the moment, the DTS channel mappings are wrong. I'll probably get them fixed tomorrow night (Sunday). if you are building the latest svn revisions via jam (rather than make) on OS X, you will need to update libtool...

Just discovered a problem with the DTS implementation in the latest svn revisions (rev 569). Unfortunately, the channels are wrongly mapped when mixing down to Dolby Pro Logic II, and also when mixing to 6-channel discrete. I'll hopefully be able to fix this over the weekend. Apologies - I thought t...

DTS source audio support

Hi all,

Good news - I've got DTS source audio support working (for 5.1 and lower DTS), using libdca. I'm hoping to be able to check something in for this soon.

Hi ggjj,

Most likely this DVD has an MPEG2 audio track rather than an AC3 track - could you check? It should say MPEG on the audio dropdown in HandBrake.

Looks like you're using 0.8.5b1, not 0.8.0b1... Did you use any of the SVN releases of HandBrake before 0.8.5b1 was released? This may be the source of the problem. Try deleting your ~/Library/Application Support/Handbrake/ folder and then relaunching HandBrake (although be aware that this will dele...

d70mac, Absolutely spot on (we debated this at length when deciding if we should include DPLII+LFE at all, were it to be possible with the libraries we use). For some DVDs it'll work great - for others, which have some of the LFE signal in the other 5 channels, there'll be this phase shift. If we do...

Hi jasonnorm,

In Handbrake 0.8.5b1, you can select two audio tracks. Just select both tracks in the "Audio & Subtitles" tab, and they should both be extracted.

Hi Fritzjung,

Maybe there's something wrong with our LPCM decoder, then, which would explain why your stereo track is coming out wrong. But the 5.1 AC3 shouldn't be out of sync... strange.

Hi realityking, Unfortunately, in its MP4 exporter, QuickTime won't allow passthru of the source soundtrack if it has 6 channels. It'll only allow 2 channel AAC to be passed through. Possibly 6 channel AAC audio isn't allowed in the official MP4 specification (this is a guess), and the QuickTime MP4...

Hi lemon, It should be possible to implement DPLII with LFE, to give a 5.1 mix. I did give this a try for HandBrake 0.8.5b1, but it wasn't as easy as I'd expected, due to the way liba52 works (it doesn't expect to extract the separate LFE track when creating output with non-discrete channels). It's ...

Fair enough. It should be possible to add DTS decoding support to HandBrake - there is an open-source library out there: http://www.videolan.org/developers/libdca.html By their own admission it's in its early days, but libdca is what VLC uses. Since libdca is based on a52dec, which HandBrake already...
