Re: Apple TV 2

If I land this next big client job, I will be picking one up for sure. Now here's hoping that the jailbreak crowd starts bringing more apps to the Apple TV so it can directly compete with other media center options like Boxee and Plex that pull in content from all over the web. Honestly, that's the ...

Ok, give it a shot if you'd like. Seems to be good for me http://cl.ly/7f4752bc7ee767e8aadc I'm using ref=5:me=umh:b-adapt=2:weightp=0:direct=auto:no-dct-decimate=1:merange=32:bframes=5:subq=9:vbv-maxrate=12000:vbv-bufsize=12000 With ac3 passthrough on audio track 1, and aac coreaudio 128 stereo on ...

Re: Apple TV 2

I also did not realize trellis=2 was available. Last I heard (which was a while ago), trellis=2 did nothing. Only trellis=1 was available. I don't doubt it works now, but when did this change? Trellis seems to do its job for me at 1, but I suppose I could try out trellis=2 and see if I notice a dif...

Re: Apple TV 2

Ok, here is my cpu intensive preset. It plays great on the iPhone 4, includes the ac3 track for perfect audio when attached to the surround system, and has a stereo 128kbps aac track 2 for playback on the iPhone 4/iPad/iPod Touch 4th gen (which is automatically selected on apple devices that won't p...

Re: Apple TV 2

I'm working on settings right this minute. As a side note, these settings will probably also be great for the iPhone 4 as long as battery life is not a concern. Also, I've noticed that my settings I've been using for the last 60 encodes or so will work, but my iPhone 4 won't sync if there's only an ...

Re: libaacs - The beginning of BluRay support for Handbrake?

Yeah, I'm familiar with that crowd. I haven't been around here too much in the last year or so, but I'm not one of _them_. Thanks again for the extra info, and count me as one user that would be very excited to see Bluray ripping in Handbrake, if that day ever comes. Certainly not to discredit handb...

Re: libaacs - The beginning of BluRay support for Handbrake?

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize MakeMKV existed. It's been a while since I've done any research regarding Bluray on the Mac. I still haven't added a Bluray drive to my mac, but now that I know it's possible to read the disks I might start converting my collection. I hope I didn't bother you...

libaacs - The beginning of BluRay support for Handbrake?

I realize that the devs here have (at least as of my latest understanding) believed that BluRay support would not be offered by Handbrake. But now, the project already uses VLC to read in video content and they've just released libaacs, which will bring the decryption engine (but no keys) to open so...

Re: MKV to MP4 conversion

Perhaps these two answers could be combined into a single, lossless solution? If we can move aac audio from mkv to mp4 and we can get the video over in another method, then I suspect some combination of tools could do both. I've looked around doom9, but I'm not finding a solution (honestly, probably...

Re: How-To: Automate DVD Backup w/ FairMount & HandBrake

I'm baaack... Yeah, just finished college. As in, today. Now I've got tons of free time! Guess what that means? I'm going to be doing a little work on these scripts here, as well as create an installer. I've been working on nice bash scripts at work already, and I think I'm a bit more proficient tha...

Re: How-To: Automate DVD Backup w/ FairMount & HandBrake

I will certainly be including lots of this in my current script. I prefer my extra step of ripping to the hard drive first. This makes it possible to rip disk in about 15 minutes or so, then insert another. Encoding is differed until the computer has time to get to it. Also, it has worked very well ...

Re: svn1797 - bug report

I'm not surprised this caused some weird behaviour. Remember, OS X is unix under the hood and unix identifies file/folder ownership using numeric UIDs . These UIDs are randomly allocated during account creation, which means that even if your username is identical across installs your UID probably i...

Re: RIP-o-Matic - (almost) Automated Ripping

This is rearly cool, but is there a way tp dp a similar thing in Windows Vista Yes! It should actually be easier to implement in XP/Vista than it was for me in OSX and Linux. Windows offers more, and arguably, better ripping software (Handbrake is still the best for encoding IMO). Pick up some basi...

Re: svn1797 - bug report

I've fixed it, it was some wierdness with my profile. I used AppZapper to remove Handbrake, and then reinstalled svn again. No problems now. Could be something related to me having remapped my home directory to a RAID array, and reinstalling OSX (Mapping your Home to a separate drive is great, all s...

Re: RIP-o-Matic - (almost) Automated Ripping

Ok, I received a PM asking how I'd done this. I'll post my code here. End result of my configuration is that you can insert dvds as quickly as you can copy them to disk, and they show up completely ready to watch in iTunes, no intervention required (ok, you might still want to tag/rename them) I hav...

[Resolved] svn1797 - bug report

UPDATE: Disregard, these issues were related to my funky setup, not Handbrake as far as I can determine. Noticing two issues with Mac GUI svn1797 Yes, I know, svn not for mass consumption yet. I'm just checking out the new features (There are TONS!) First, I'm no longer able to create new presets......

Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

Alright, spent the weekend testing new settings and such. Weighted b frames absolutely murder the Apple TV. With weighted b-frames off, I'm able to pack in LOTS more b-frames and reference frames before noticing issues. After my experimentation, I would classify weighted b-frames as unusable on the ...

Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

Final question before I set off my queue of encodes for the night, would dual pass CRF ever make an improved quality rip? I've never even thought to try, and just realized it's possible from CLI. No it won't, and no it's not. The CLI will let you attempt to impossible things, because it is meant as...

Although I think my ABR settings have just slightly better quality, unless I'm doing side by side comparisons I'm n...

Re: Combine DVD files

jbrjake, I've corrected my post, it was my mistake. I did not mean to infer that HandBrake was in any way illegal, just that it was capable of reading dvds with css protection, and that discussing decryption for legal activities in these forums would logically be acceptable.
