Rename chapter titles in files encoded with the universal pr
Hi I've been encoding my DVDs using the Apple Universal Preset (initially using HB 0.9.3, lately using HandBrake SVN2845 Snapshot). I haven't been bothered to rename the chapters, so my encodes have Chapter 1, Chapter 2 etc). I decided it might be nice to have chapter titles, and while I could go ba...

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources
No doubt this information will be met with a withering put-down from some contributors to the HB project, but *something* must have changed with regard to sync from 0.9.2 to 0.9.3. For info I usually rip first with MTR then encode. And as noted in the 0.9.3 changeset, what changed is that now HandB...

Re: Apple Movie Rental encoding settings
The Apple Universal preset. That is all. :) Well apart from the need to alter the encoded video size so that the vertical dimension is not more than 576 pixels-that's necessary with lots of PAL sources with the current version of HB (I gather it's been fixed in a newer developer version). Also ther...

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources
I have found one thing consistent, however. It seems that many interlaced, full-screen sources have serious sync issues. I don't fault HB, because the sources are crap for the most part. I quite agree that there are some bad sources, but the DVDs I have had problems with play back fine either in a ...

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources
It really is so noticeable on my encodes that I'm surprised other people aren't commenting on it. Would the fact that all my DVDs are PAL, and the problematic ones are usually TV shows rather than movies be a contributing factor to my problem? Perhaps it doesn't arise on NTSC DVDs?

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources
Well in the interest of accuracy, audio sync is proving to be a real problem even on material that isn't interlaced, and for which I have therefore had no need to alter anything from the Universal preset. I don't have an AppleTV yet, but have an iPhone, 3rd gen iPod nano and several Macs. For some o...

Re: Apple Universal not always producing iphone compatible files
Bit harsh. He probably read the helpful wiki: So, in quick summary, to use a preset to encode with HandBrake. just click on the preset and then click "Rip". Thats it. Simple. Universal Description: HandBrake's universally compatible, full resolution settings for all current Apple devices: ...

Recent encodes with Universal preset will not play on iPhone
The first encodes I did with HB 0.9.3 play back fine on my iMac and on my iPhone and 3G Nano. However, I have discovered that some recent encodes will not transfer to either iPhone or Nano. I have just done a test from a Sopranos DVD (ripped to hard drive with MTR) and it will not transfer. The acti...

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) *on interlaced material*
To clarify, I have seen this issue manifest itself only on interlaced material. It could be caused by substandard sources, but it is apparent to a greater or lesser degree on all interlaced material I have encoded (all of these encodes had the decomb filter on using the default setting). I don't thi...

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) when using decomb filter
Do you have anything constructive to add, beyond making a schoolboy debating point which relies on a false dichotomy in your reading of my post? My title does not state or imply a causal link between the decomb filter and the lip sync problem; it is simply a fact that the issue only manifests itself...

Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources
Hi I am having great success with Handbrake 0.9.3 and the Universal preset, apart from a couple of encodings from interlaced sources (my DVD of Series 1 of The Sopranos and just now my copy of Wonderboys). A quick look at the stills in picture settings shows clear interlacing artefacts so I enabled ...

Re: iPod anamorphic playback
I'd also be interested in whether the experts see anything wrong with the settings the OP used. I'm very grateful that Handbrake works as well as it does with so many options for tweaking, but given the number of duplicate posts about single files for iPhone/AppleTV/iPod I think it would save the de...

Tweaking the iPod HiRez preset for anamorphic encoding
Hi I've been reading this forum for months now and have found a lot of useful information; now I'd like to ask a question about tweaking one of the presets. I currently have a 3G iPod Nano, and may well be getting an AppleTV in the near future. For the moment though I also plan to watch my Handbrake...
