Exactly. Doesn’t work in 1.0.7. Any nightly build for the last couple of months or longer has worked (playable in QT, tvOS 11, etc.)

Re: PCM 7.1 mixdown options
Ah, I see. Is that an outstanding feature request (I couldn't find one on GitHub). There are many stb platforms that support mp4 but not MKV (with Plex, I suppose most can).

I haven't encoded anything relevant with this source so I'm including the activity log. PCM 7.1 mixdown options
Description of problem or question I have a source that has an 8 channel (7.1) PCM audio track. I'd like to preserve that, if possible, with the target device in mind being an Apple TV (4th gen). The ATV supports DD+/eac3, but it looks like there's no eac3 encoding options in HB. If the source was ...

Re: 10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
Thanks for the reply. I guess a similar answer would be in order for 12-bit. Are there any set top players (Roku, ATV, etc.) that handle anything above 8-bit? (I should note that I don't have any HDR titles so that's not my point in asking.)

10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
Quick question (I hope). Is 10-bit HEVC primarily for HDR content?
Is there any reason I would encode my Blu-ray titles with 10-bit HEVC? (I assume no, since they're mostly AVC or MPEG2 on disc and probably don't support 10-bit color.)

Re: AppleTV 4K
Therein lies the question. eac3 passthrough will work on ATV, but whether or not HB recognizes it as a valid codec is another question.

Re: ATV4 HEVC preset
OK, I confirmed it works now. I used a recent nightly build, encoded a couple of chapters from a Blu-ray, added it to iTunes and it showed up and played on the 4th gen ATV. Now my question is: What should the presets be?

Re: ATV4 HEVC preset
Has anyone confirmed this works and with what version of HB? It did. It with the first few betas of the new OSes and I think I had to download the latest nightly build of HB to get hevc working on macOS. I never got it working on the 4th gen with 1080p or otherwise.

Re: HEVC/h.265 encodes not playable on macOS 10.13 High Sierra
Side question: Is Handbrake utilizing hardware accelerated encoding in 10.13? h.265 encoding seems to be quite a bit faster in 10.13 compared to 10.12.

Good deal, thanks for the quick reply. Glad to see you're still around on this project! I haven't been on these forums since ~2009.
I'll give the latest nightly build a try.

HEVC/h.265 encodes not playable on macOS 10.13 High Sierra
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: I'm trying to encode an MKV (ripped from a 1080p Blu-ray) with h.265 (main profile/auto level as suggested by Apple) but the resulting file will not play on macOS 10.13, while sample content I've found online encoded with h.265 p...

Re: No 64bit VLC. What now smart guys?
AFAIK, VLC use was implemented for a number of reasons and has made it so HB leads a long and fruitful life without getting shutdown by the MPAA. It was a wise decision on the part of the devs. There's a reason why programs like DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor are no longer in development (though you c...

Re: 0.9.4 only encodes 2 chapters
Disabling dvdnav worked for me. I knew I had the right title, but HB would say "finished" after about 2 seconds of encoding. Disabling dvdnav and restarting is working so far... we'll see if it encodes the whole movie.

Re: Fast-forward and rewind issues [AVI & H264]
One other thing I would mention is the more advanced options you set in x264, the more complicated the files becomes and the harder it becomes to FF/RW. Stick to a very basic preset (probably similar to Apple Univ.) and you'll get OK results on FF/RW'ing.

Re: Apple TV Preset and Video Resolution
If you read the Wiki on anamorphic you'll see that your video really is the smaller resolution. Anamorphic just stretches it out when it's played on a widescreen TV. It makes storing full height (i.e. 480 pixels) video possible on DVD technology.

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources
seems any QT based decoder will sync up properly, but anything else just doesnt know how to handle the audio sync. I have to disagree with you there. I have a couple of encodes that I played on my ATV and QuickTime on my Mac and on both devices are not in sync. I share the same frustration with man...

Re: Apple TV AC3 Audio Out Of Sync
This is getting to be a mess now. The problem is there are too many variables in each person's system to get a definitive answer as to what is going on. With my setup the only encode I've noticed that has been grossly out of sync was an encode of Run Fat Boy Run, which was my fault because I didn't ...

Re: Apple TV AC3 Audio Out Of Sync
Would be interesting, but HB 0.9.3 is old news; they're not going to fix it and rerelease the same version. Any fixes have and will go into 0.9.4. I read on another thread yesterday that someone thought this had been fixed in the current SVN release. Problem encodes are any that required de-interlac...

The four "corners" or "sides" of the frame? I'm assuming you mean sides. Can you attach a screenshot so we can visualize this?
