Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Didn't see this addressed in this thread, but I loaded a BR rip ripped with MakeMKV into HB and noticed that while the source AR was 1920x1080, the Display Size listed below that showed 1920x812. Any way to fix this? Without seeing a log, I'd bet the difference is the cropping of the black bar area...

Re: Handbrake version 0.9.6 not running with MAC OSX 10.5.8
So I downloaded the newest version of handbrake, since I love this program. Come to find out that it doesn't work on OSX 10.5.8!!!! I am at my wits end!! Looking for either the older version to re-install but haven't been able to find it. I there works planned for the older OSXs. Thanks for any hel...

There are many more interlaced DVD sources than Bluray.Moviecouple wrote:Thanks for the info. Curious as to why it would be recommended to use Decomb and Deinterlace on DVD's, but not for Blu-Ray's? Any insight you can tell me?

Re: PGS Subtitles
I have just re-ripped Avatar, using MakeMKV and extracted only the forced subtitle track, (english) and re-encoded it with handbrake, (with only burn-in selected in the Subtitle menu of HB, forced sub unchecked) the subtitles stay on screen for very long periods of time, till the next forced subtit...

Re: Would x264 presets/tunes and HandBrake apply to Blu-ray?
I’ve read over the Tutorial: x264 presets/tunes and HandBrake and I am creating custom profiles based around this. However, would these still apply to Blu-ray (aside from obvious setting changes such as RF values). I typically use the settings from preset "slower" and tune "film"...

I can confirm that I was able to burn-in the forced English PGS subtitles from both my Iron Man and Taken Blurays using svn4613.

Re: Audio Track Names on the AppleTV
This occurred when they switched to iOS as the base platform for AppleTV. Call it a bug or a feature, even Apple-purchased content shows up this way. Instead of displaying the track name, they now only show the language (I believe before it showed both). At this point, all we can really do is send f...

Great development, will begin re-ripping the BR discs from my collection with forced PGS subtitles so I'll have a number of sources ready for testing. =)

It is scaling to 720p, but yes lots of us have had a similar experience since updating to the latest version of the AppleTV software.

Re: Low Voices, high effects.
My sweet spot for AC3 -> AAC audio is gain +3 dB and DRC 1.5. Any increase in gain should be matched (where available) with a corresponding increase in DRC to avoid clipping and distortion. It's always been my understanding that DRC (both hardware and software) limits peak audio so it will make lou...

I can't think of a single setting that would make an encode compatible with the AppleTV v1 but incompatible with an iPad 3. Can you post an encode log from one of the files?

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
ATV2 profile puts some limits on some advanced settings that don't matter so much on ATV3. HP uses a more well-rounded set of advanced options as it is meant for devices fully supporting the H.264 High Profile spec, which the ATV2 was not quite up to. Not really. High Profile uses a better, but slo...

Re: Apple TV 3 and Blu-Ray 1080p - Best Encode
Well I compared the final file to a bunch of things. 1. the original blu-ray, which i know isn't gonna be close obviously (50GB vs. 10GB). but it's further than I thought. 2. and most importantly to some of the new 1080p iTunes files. the same movie, as an iTunes encode is better. less banding, les...

Re: New iPad and Apple TV presets
FYI, if you didn't know it you don't need to re-encode 720p and 1080p MKVs on "the new iPad". Just use the OS X application Subler http://code.google.com/p/subler/ and change the container to m4v. Plays perfectly in the video app. It looks amazing! Too bad it doesn't work in the old VLC a...

Re: Blu-ray to Appletv2 - Step by Step Guide
Try opening the folder above BDMV and let HandBrake parse the disc structure like it does for DVD. You may find MakeMKV easier to use (free while in beta). Well I knew it would be something simple, but not that simple :-) That seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the help! Gets more difficult if the ...

Ok thanks guys, I've not done much cq encodes so appreciate comments. On a slightly different note, as you can imagine I've gotta lot of 6-7gb 720p files, if I wanted to re-encode them with cq to reduce size would I be better going back to the original source or can I re-encode the 720p file (would...

I've done over a thousand encodes with handbrake and could probably count the ones that went over 4GB on two hands.Artiprinted wrote:I found VidCoder going to try it. It doesn't matter to me how accurate it is as long as the size is below 4gb. Maybe if you renamed it to some like maximum file size instead of target.

You can add chapters post-encode with Subler. They have an example of the file format you need to use on the website.

What does that string do for the encode, picture quality or file size or encoding speed? Also - I thought the iPad2 frame size was 1280x720 so why would I want to use a smaller maximum frame size?
