Re: Apple TV2 - PAL or NTSC for the UK

Hi I am using Handbrake 0.9.5 successfully with the 'Apple TV2' preset. However I noticed today that this preset is setting the Framerate to 29.97 NTSC. The 'Normal' preset follows the original disc. As I am based in the UK should I amend the preset to PAL? PAL also seems to have a higher vertical ...

Re: New $99 AppleTV finally plays 720p @ 30fps

Surround started working now, very odd. And i might have been too quick to judge on the video quality because i connected the old AppleTV and it does in fact seem very similar. I must have become spoilt with Blu-Ray, that's the only possible reason =) PS. How come none of the trailers have surround ...

Re: New $99 AppleTV finally plays 720p @ 30fps

Is it just me or does the video quality actually look worse on the new AppleTV I've got a 1080p Sony 40" LCD TV and with Apple TV 1 even regular DVD rips looked fine. Now on the new Apple TV they look like [Censored]. And surround sound doesn't work anymore. Is the video quality issue because o...

Re: Best settings for multiple devices

I'm in the process of encoding around 500 DVDs (haven't started encoding them yet, still ripping the DVDs to the comp) so I obviously want to create both efficient, high quality and somewhat future proof rips. My target devices for the encodes are: iPad, iPhone 3G S, PS3 and AppleTV (might get rid o...

Subtitles on AppleTV

Is it possible to get subtitles on AppleTV from a movie ripped from a DVD?

I've been reading several posts on this forum and it seems that it isn't because AppleTV doesn't support the mkv format. Is this correct?

Thanks for any help!

AppleTV 2.2: "The update also adds chapter selection, alternate audio and subtitles - again, press and hold Play/Pause to access these options." Has anyone managed to add multiple or soft subtitles to a m4v or mp4 file yet? This feature would be awesome for foreign films... or even for Bri...

Re: Universal vs. AppleTV preset

Thanks for the help! Universal vs. AppleTV preset

I've tried searching the forums if there is a visible difference in quality (video/audio) in the new Universal Preset and the Apple TV preset (or even the Legacy AppleTV preset), but haven't really found anything conclusive. Some background: I used to rip all movies that had no letterboxing at aroun...

Thanks for the fast reply Rodney! Yeah, i'm gonna do some experimenting with different settings and try to find a good setting for viewing both on AppleTV and the Touch. Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

Is there a way i can modify the current AppleTV setting and get the video to play on my Touch? I tried nightstrm's setting (Advanced: cabac=0:ref=2:analyse=all:me=umh:subq=6:no-fast-pskip=1:trellis=1:mixed-refs=1:merange=32:level=30) and it worked on the Touch (bitrate at about 2500 and anamorphic)....

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

Here is the preset I have been using to generate encodes that are compatible with both the AppleTV and the iPhone, while taking advantage of the new features in .9.2 (including AAC+AC3, improved anamorphic support, and VFR to name a few). Using these settings, I have yet to come across an encode th...
