Force Aspect Ratio?

First of all let me say that I have tried searching and I freely admit I suck at it... so if there is a thread here addressing this already, please someone just point me at it and kindly don't holler me please. I'm still using HB v.0.9.1 as I still run Tiger and yes, I'm aware you don't support it a...

Cool... thanks for letting me know that Baggss...

I'm not in a hurry to leave Tiger behind yet, but the day will come eventually... ;)

In fact I find that I have no trouble ripping most things straight from DVD to my HD either, I just like to save the wear and tear.

OK Dynaflash... thanks... ;) I'm really not trying to start a dispute, argument, pi**ing match or anthing at all like that so I can appreciate your answer. I think I got my answer re: Leopard at Macupdate... someone said something about 2.66 not working presumably because of changes made by Apple. I...

Anyone still using MTR 2.66?

I wondered what the status was on MTR 2.66. I'm still running 10.4.10 and find that version still works quite well for me. Does it not run on Leopard? I seem to be quite fortunate in that I've had really no issues to speak of with MTR 2.66 but I do almost exclusively TV Series rather than movies. Fr...

Try using MacTheRipper to rip the DVD to your Disk and then process with HandBrake. I'm in the middle of doing the Babylon 5 series myself, I always use MTR first and I can't remember exactly which disk it was now but the one you mention rings a bell. MTR ripped the whole thing to my HD successfully...

Anyone notice if the new display will be capable of better than the current 16-bit (65,536) color? If not, it's a deal breaker for me... I'd still be stuck with the crappy gradients... :(

Applogies... I am not the most successful at searching. I was not complaining so much as wanting to bring this to someone's attention anyway.

Thank you very much for pointing me to the correct thread!

Please feel free to delete this one.

HB 0.9.0 Crashes Consistantly on Changing Size of Picture...

I'm running HB 0.9.0 on a MacBook Pro 2.33GHz with 2GB RAM and my problem is with HB consistently crashing as soon as I choose the iPod High Rez preset and then go to Picture settings, as I prefer a smaller size than 640xh as soon as I try to lower that via either the height or width arrow with Keep...

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try a few things on a couple of particularly difficult files... not much of a change unfortunately. I believe I've hit the best I'm going to get out of this gen. of iPod! I'm really hoping Apple decides on an upgrade to something with a widescreen like the iPhone soo...

Just a thought... I'm not sure why it should matter since creators and types are a "Mac" thing only and not so much since OS X however I notice that running a video through Quicktime not only changes the extension to .m4v it also changes the "type" of the file to M4V . You can check and change these...

High Rez iPod Files...

Before I go and re-encode all the DVD's I've done with HB 0.8.5b1, I wonder if I might get an opinion or two. I've done all my videos using: Codec: x264 Video bitrate: 1500 kbps Audio bitrate: 128 kbps Sample rate: 48 khz Framerate: 29.97 Passes: 2-pass Resolution 320xh mostly 320x176 and the iPod ...

Apple states you can't use more than 1 reference frame. This is untrue. On 640x480 content, up to 2 reference frames should be reliable, and with 320x240 encodes, up to 4 reference frames are possible. Increasing reference frames will have a very significant impact on quality, but will also signifi...

Well... there you have it! I suspect I'll probably be in the market for a 32" to 37" LCD TV when nitty comes down to gritty fairly soon as the old tube fails me... ;) As for HB 8.5b1, I'm impressed and happy... it's turning out to be a super version for me, most errors have been "operator caused"......

Oh... I suppose someone is going to be curious as to why bother with all the small 320xh files... I'm an iPod freak... my aim is to have a nice library of excellent iPod optimized files. The smaller files work and look better on the iPod and take less time to encode. I have no desire to jump on the ...

Yeah... it's the resolution, I can get 1500kbps on 640xh as well, it's the 320xh... I imagine they must hit a limit. However I did fine something that improves things greatly! :) I wasn't used any of the built in presets, rather I just set up my own personal one... so I got curious and went hunting ...

OK... well thus far I have had no luck get a standard 320x176 size TV series intended for iPod viewing to go as high as 1400kbps for a video bitrate. They will encode at that rate in VisualHub however when adding them to iTunes and then trying to get them onto the iPod they are rejected as unplayabl...

Thanks, I'll make note of that. I haven't had a problem getting bitrates to go higher on resolutions over 320 so far although at least up to 1300 kbps... it's the 320x176 ones that give me fits. The reason for me wanting the lower resolution and higher bitrate on some DVD's is because I've been tryi...

Mine top out around 1270k total... iTunes shows it as about 1143k video (give or take a kb or two) and 127k audio. The audio I've noticed has always done that a lot... 127k instead of the set 128k but that doesn't make a difference I'd notice.
