On the GUI choice for the first release, I'm with dynaflash; How much time do you all think we have in getting the encoding stable? It doesn't seem to be just a memory leak now that various libraries have been upgraded. I think dynaflash and I could get the GUI up to speed in a few weeks, but will t...

I'm not worried about having users :) I'll help out simply to get what I want out of it. If something titer does is something I want, then I'll use it! Freedom of choice, nothing wrong with giving users (or ourselves) one. I'll stick around simply for the learning experience. I'll have you guys appl...

Anxious to see your preset code. Mine is likely to pale by comparison. :) I doubt it, it wasn't anything that special. It could be done more cleanely, but having clean preset code vs. not having presets in the app makes any functional preset code acceptable for now :) I threw these mock ups togethe...

New New Mac GUI
Per a conversation between dynaflash and I, we were sorta on the same page as a far as integrating IHBs and HBs interfaces. Below is a link to some mock ups I made, please comment here with suggestions. I hope our design attempts on any front aren't ruined by the effects of too much committee :) Enj...

If someone would like to supply me with some DVD content to test with, I will do it [OSX]. Otherwise I'll need to locate a DVD. I finally got a chance to get HB built from the repository and noticed that the OSX GUI is ripe for the preset work I did. I could put it in... As much as I want to I know ...

There used to be an explanation of the name and the icon on titer's old site (I'm pretty sure). The app was meant to give titer's hand a brake from all the crap one used to need to do to rip video. What do you enjoy when you're relaxing instead of clicking, well a nice mixed drink of course! Back of...

I'm not saying this to stop the presses or anything, you guys roll on with all the work you seem to have been doing. Kudos to the effort. I'm tearing up a bit with all of this iPod and cross-platform GUI talk. One thing I really admire about titer's work was how he managed to provide the different i...

IRC Channel
Any of the devs care to fire up an IRC channel?
#handbrake-dev on freenode?
I don't think we'd get too much crap from people, if we did we would sadly need to lock the channel down. Just a thought. I find IRC quite handy.
EDIT:
Channel is up and running! Come join us! --jbrjake

User Defined Presets
On the topic of how presets would make the original HB interface nearly perfect... (really, it's hard to beat from a usability standpoint) One thing I can think of is not necessarily putting the image from picture settings in the main view, but maybe the status of those settings (de-interlace on/off...

More on the Q
My thoughts are that the queue should be put directly in the work flow. By that I mean the user is always using the queue regardless if it's just one thing 'in the queue'. I haven't checked to see just how much separation there is in the code from the queue as opposed to simply clicking start. Let m...

I personally found being able to verify 90% of the settings in one glance was something that made HB very nice to use. I understand the want to integrate IHB and HB, but I'm not completely sure I agree. IHB is the much less configurable for a reason. It's drop dead simple. HB is still ridiculously s...
