Re: Best preset to achieve highest quality conversion
I tried the re-mux technique with Subler on 4 test movies and it seems to have worked just fine on 3 of them. 1 of the movies did refuse to sync to my iPad/iPhone, as iTunes threw up an alert saying that the particular movie in question wasn't synced because it can't be played on my device. I'm liki...

Re: Best preset to achieve highest quality conversion
OK... don't laugh, but I've just learned that most, if not all, of the MKV files I was planning on converting are probably encoded with x264, which should be compatible with iOS devices. Instead of a lengthy re-encode, I may be able to re-mux and just change the container format. For any compatible ...

Re: Best preset to achieve highest quality conversion
Everyone starts off not knowing anything, you'll learn as you go along. I started off less than a year ago and have come a long way. I appreciate all your feedback, and I especially appreciate your attitude with my inexperience in the 'encoding scene', as you put it. I've posted on these forums in ...

Re: Best preset to achieve highest quality conversion
Thanks for the reply, but in all honesty, this is the kind of response I was dreading because it makes virtually no sense to me. I don't need to understand the hows or whys of the process of conversion. I was basically hoping that someone could put themselves in my situation and answer the following...

Best preset to achieve highest quality conversion
I'm on the brink using handbrake to convert hundreds of movies into iPad 3/iPhone 5/AppleTV 3 compatible files, and my goal is to achieve the highest possible output quality for each individual file. I'd like to be able to permanently delete the original movies files once I'm done with the conversio...

Re: Batch Convert VIDEO_TS Rips
Thanks for the awesome response! If only I had even fleeting chance of being able to pull this off based solely on your description, then I'd be good to go! Unfortunately... (you guessed it)... I haven't got aforementioned fleeting chance :( I don't suppose you could elaborate in layman's terms, cou...

Batch Convert VIDEO_TS Rips
Back in the day, I used to rip all of my DVD movies using MacTheRipper to the VIDEO_TS format, thinking that this was the most archival manner to go about backing up my movies (as its basically the same as the files on the DVD disc, minus DRM Copy Protection). Problem is that the VIDEO_TS format isn...

Re: Workflow for Converting DVD Rips to iPhone/AppleTV Format??
IME, the greatest value of using the presets is ensuring compatibility of the video with the device. In terms of improving quality I haven't seen a big difference from tweaking them so I don't bother. You will want to tweak the bitrate though, because it impacts file size. Just play around a bit an...

Re: Workflow for Converting DVD Rips to iPhone/AppleTV Format??
To reiterate my question (which, of course, is not answered in the Wiki): I first wanted to know if some of you also convert your rips so that they're optimized for playback device on the specific device you'll be viewing them on (i.e. not putting a 2GB-3GB movie on my iPhone when the playback quali...

Workflow for Converting DVD Rips to iPhone/AppleTV Format??
I've backed-up hundreds of my DVD movies using MacTheRipper in the Video_TS Folder format, and I would now like to begin converting these ripped backups so that I can have a version that will be optimized for my AppleTV (for high-res playback) and also so that I can have a version specifically for p...

Batch conversion using CLI via Perl or Shell script??
I would be genuinely grateful if someone could help me finally figure how how to use either the perl script or the shell script (whose links are referenced below) to automate the process of batch converting hundreds of VIDEO_TS rips using a single specified present of my choosing... VERY IMPORTANT!!...
