Thanks! I didn't know it was that granular and was only going off of

Code: Select all

1,920×1,080 @ 30.1 (4)

Should h.264 level 4.0/4.1/4.2 be ref=4 or ref=5?

In the 0.10.5 GUI for Mac, if you set your level to 4.0, 4.1, or 4.2, it will restrict reference frames to 5. Wikipedia and other places show reference frames should be set to 4 for those levels, but they could be wrong. I also just looked at a log I ran through the 0.10.5 CLI where I set the level ...

Re: loosing correct aspect

For encodes that will be used on an XBOX 360, uncheck 8x8 in the advance settings to retain the correct aspect ratio.

Re: Errors in Encodes from MakeMKV/Bluray

Yes, all the Blurays I have are MPEG-4 AVC. The other disc I've encoded is True Blood, Season 1 with similar glitches in the video as seen above. Im using an external [Censored] BD-CMB UJ141AL drive via USB 2.0 to a Macbook Pro running the latest version of MakeMKV and using Handbrake nightlies. I'v...

Errors in Encodes from MakeMKV/Bluray

I recently started encoding my Blurays using MakeMKV and then sending the file through handbrake, but I've noticed errors in almost all of my encodes. Most of them are reproducible, and an error is showing up in the logs. Here are two examples with a MakeMKV extraction for Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Star ...

If you're talking about season 1, it's a problem with the source.

Re: [Patch] [Core] SSA burn-in support

Try the original video in VLC to see if the issue appears there. HandBrake basically uses the same code as VLC to render SSA. I forgot to mention that the video on the left of the example clip is being played through VLC. It plays fine there without the timing issues seen in the video from handbrak...

Re: [Patch] [Core] SSA burn-in support

Hey David, Thanks for your hard work on this. I ran into an issue today when multiple lines of subtitles are timed to appear at different times on screen. Not sure if the issue is with the patch, the source's subs, or my user error. Here's a clip to show an example. [18:57:41] thread 11c035000 exite...

Re: [PATCH] Basic SSA subtitle support

The only issue I've seen is when there are multiple subtitles appearing on screen at the same time, during opening sequences with music lyrics and dialogue, for example. This is should be expected and is just the nature of the beast, IMO. Watching the encoded video, it looks like it tries to display...

Re: Higher bit rate file smaller than lower bit rate file?

They are indeed different in size according to the log. i'm not sure why. The first had a higher quality factor and higher storage res. I would have thought it would be larger. july [10:17:06] mux: track 0, 33591 frames, 233757264 bytes, 1342.53 kbps, fifo 32 [10:17:06] mux: track 1, 65293 frames, ...

Higher bit rate file smaller than lower bit rate file?

Ok, Im scratching my head on this one. Why would a file with a higher total bit rate (as reported my OSX) be smaller in file size than another file with a lower total bit rate? Im re-encoding Season 1 of the Simpsons and Im seeing this when comparing to episodes I encoded last July. Does this have a...

Re: How-To: Automate DVD & Blu-Ray (Backup, Encoding & Taggi

Not sure if this is a bug with Add TV Tags or something Im doing incorrectly, but It seems that when you highlight multiple episodes, and you have DVD order checked in the workflow, that the Add TV Tags workflow will use the DVD order information for the first selected item, but will then go to Aire...

Re: Detelecine/Decomb/Deinterlace on Futurama

EEDI2 is an interpolator. All it does is filter interlaced frames. What bearing does using the "slowest of the slow" interpolators for the deinterlacing segment of decomb have on the combing detection segment? How is running over the detected frames more slowly going to affect which frame...

Re: Detelecine/Decomb/Deinterlace on Futurama

Sorry, I should have been more detailed but couldnt remember the custom decomb settings. By "slowest of the slow" I meant I tried many of the custom decomb combos including Mode 25 (EEDI2->yadif->mcdeint).

Re: Detelecine/Decomb/Deinterlace on Futurama

I tried encoding the pilot for Futurama a few months ago, and I finally decided there was nothing I could do and chalked it up to just being the way the disc was encoded. Even using the slowest of slow decomb settings, combing was still noticeable. But I am by no means an expert on the decombing opt...

Re: 0.9.4 Xbox 360 Settings *TESTED*

Nope. I usually encode to m4v's and the 360 plays them just fine. IIRC, there is some sort of compatibility patch the 360 will automatically download, and I think it's for AAC support.

Re: Problems with xbox aspect ratio 0.9.4 "High Profile"

All you have to do is remove 8x8 DCT for the XBOX 360. You will be able to go back to using anamorphic encodes.

Re: 0.9.4 Xbox 360 Settings *TESTED*

I would disable 8x8DCT (which is on by default) for the XBOX 360. The file will play, but the aspect ratio will be distorted.

I also agree with merange. 64 is too high. I'd use 16 and at most, 24.

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

Does anyone use different deblock settings for their ATV encodes? I've noticed that the x264 tuning setting for "Film" are -1-1 and "Grain" are -2-2. I'm going to do some tests soon, but curious as to your impressions.
