Re: DVD vs Apple TV CQ 62% at 1080p, artifact question
The dev who uses mkv the most uses this: < j45> generally, for blu-ray i use constant quality 59% and these x264 opts "ref=2:mixed-refs:bframes=3:b-pyramid:weightb:analyse=all:8x8dct:me=umh:subme=7:b-adapt=2". Full resolution 1080p encodes come out to about 8 to 10 GB. Also, you should not...

Re: Extra chapter when I try to encode
That's a problem with Ripit. They know about it. You can search their forums about it. They will fix it someday. Or you can run the Ripit rip through Dvd2oneX2 to fix it before send giving it to HB.

thank you cvk_b for your help but does what realityking suggest is valid (I guess you can go up to 1280x720 as long as you're <=25 fps) ? and can you guys make a preset (and call it Beta) for Handbrake with the above settings? realityking is a realiable source for info here, certainly. A workaround that doesn't really take much time is to use Toast to create a DVD image from your single VOB.
