Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
With these settings, the h264 encoder (i.e x264) embedded within Handbrake will take MORE time to analyze the video stream, but it will make a MUCH better use of the bits, resulting in a MUCH better visual quality. No, not in my opinion. You're vastly overstating things. First, looking at your chan...

Re: How to Add Subtitles From a Blu-Ray?
Okay so now that I have had some time to sit down and attempt to figure this out I have run into a problem, I was able to extract the subtitle I needed but it's in .sup format. So I need to convert that, right? But I am on a Mac and can't find a program that will convert the .sup into the file type...

Re: How to Add Subtitles From a Blu-Ray?
Mkvtoolnix, the same one you use to identify the PGS subs. You can insert your .sup/.idx and have it mux you a new .mkv to process through Handbrake.Maverickmusic wrote:How do you MUX the subs into the .mkv? Which program do I use?
I edited my earlier post to hopefully make it a little clearer.

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Thanks for this. I am not seeing the value in the High Profile preset. Seems like ridiculously long encode times with no savings in file size. Also its weird how the RF20 took longer than the RF19 for the Normal preset. Those encode times are extremely large. A 1080 encode on High Profile doesn't t...

Re: How to Add Subtitles From a Blu-Ray?
No, you don't "have" to burn in subtitles. Handbrake and the ATV can handle soft and forced subtitles. You "can" burn them in, but you don't have to. Blu-ray movies use PGS subtitles, which Handbrake does not recognize at this time. In general you need to: Use Mkvtoolnix to ident...

Re: **Updated** Bluray Ripping & Encoding (A Total Mac Solut
So, I'm not crazy when I look at all this and think to myself "Still can't go from bluray to mp4 with the subtitles that came on the disc" am I? I saw nutstick's post a little ways up there and I'm thinking he was talking about keeping everything in an MKV container. Things are a little d...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
If someone has the time, could they pick a popular film like one of the Star Wars prequels and leave no stone unturned with their settings? I find their contents a little confusing. I'd still love to see a preset with a couple of custom variable options, I'd like to start powering through my librar...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Based on the top post from Handbrake, generally, what are we looking at time wise transcoding in high profile over normal? I've always used High Profile (but 720p output) so its length is "normal" for me. A typical encode would take about 2 hours on my Mac Pro (quad core, 6 GB) but my 108...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Where are you seeing this, specifically? Get Info? Historically iTunes and the ATV would flag any content that was 1280x[x] as "HD." Some files, not at all; you had to add an HD flag via a program like Subler for iTunes/ATV to mark it as such. I've never had iTunes flag anything automatic...

Re: AppleTV 3 - AC3 track is not detected
Or something like that. I solved it by importing the the tracks into a new mp4 in the correct order which solved it. What is the "correct order?" I've encountered a similar problem with my encodes that played fine on my ATV/ATV2 but not my iPad (would transfer over but not play). Some dee...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
I used the High Profile preset to encode a handful of Bluray rips and I'm very pleased with the results. Now I'm thinking of encoding DVDs using the High Profile preset and seeing how those results are. Anyone try this yet? I'm just curious if it's worth using instead of just the regular AppleTV 2 ...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Everything looks great, picture quality is great. My one question is when looking at the summary info within iTunes it tells me the the Video Quality is High Definition (720p), Why? The video dimensions are 1920x1080. Where are you seeing this, specifically? Get Info? Historically iTunes and the AT...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Using Strict is an easy way to make sure the input is never scaled. Depending on what you do, anamorphic None could result in (sometimes accidentally) downscaled or even upscaled output. Though if you set cropping to custom 0/0/0/0 and modulus to 8 or lower and set "Use picture settings" ...

Re: Forcing default audio stream (.m4v)
Nope. No go with "enabling" and unchecking the audio tracks within Subler. (Good idea!) I did run across "mp4box" which lets you demux and mux mp4 containers. It's all CLI and it'd be quite an undertaking to extract and remux the audio tracks in a hundred encodes. Hoping there's ...

Re: Forcing default audio stream (.m4v)
Humm. Subler is a good idea. I opened up an affected file and the Surround track is "enabled" and the AAC track is not. Checked a known good file that predates my bad settings and the AAC track is selected as "enabled" and the Surround is not. I'll give it a whirl and see if it w...

Forcing default audio stream (.m4v)
Hello. Longtime user of Handbrake and have very nice settings that I've been using for encodes for the last bit. My files are designed for playback on my ATV2 and iPad, based off the High Profile preset. Unfortunately I've just caught a mistake after a couple hundred encodes and finishing my Blu-ray...

MacGUI SVN 3602 Activity Queue Stalls / Encodes Never Finish
I've seen this activity on SVN 3602. I haven't entirely nailed down the steps that reproduce it but have run into the bug at least 5 times in the past 24 hours. I'll update as I get more specifics. Issue: Opening up Handbrake and completing an encode has no issues. Altering settings and queuing up a...

Re: getting subtitles to work
Third subtitle track without the forced flag was a winner for me - thanks, Ted3. Apart from trying all the various combinations, what's the best way of figuring out beforehand which is the correct subtitle track to use? I've got BluRay discs of Kill Bill to rip as well, and I don't want have to spe...

Re: Encoding for A4 devices (iPad, iPhone 4, tv 2)
If anyone else is using Handbrake successfully to perform clean encodes of DVD's for the Apple TV2 please pass along the settings... I'm not terribly good at deciphering the settings in the log file, but I can tell you that I have successfully ripped both DVDs and Blurays (on current SVN and previo...

Re: Device Choices
Apple TV seems to be a compromise in this area having no disc player. It won't play .avi file either, is that right? Not knowing your home situation, the ATV also has an Apple UI, which means it's "SO approved." :) That is, no matter what piece of gear I use, no matter how technically awe...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4
As per the other thread and this one cavlc need not apply. I have always used cabac since atv 2.4. I only sync and have had no problems. I stream from my SLS and CABAC caused issues with my HD content and the ATV. I'm not advocating one or the other, only providing a datapoint. That said, I plan to...

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
psy-rdo is enabled when subme ≥ 6. I also ran some encodes to confirm the same. Thank you. :) What programs were you using to play the samples? You can't do frame advance on vlc, but quicktime can't play dvds. If you were playing the files using different programs that might be the reason that the ...
