Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 3

Wow, I am seeing a very noticeable difference on my test material. About 7-8 fps faster with this version than with 0.9.2. Keep up the great work, guys!

3 fps? Ouch.... I hope you guys don't do a lot of encoding! Can your Mac Minis even play back a high-quality ripped movie without skipping? jk :)

Re: Resolution vs. Bitrate

I'm so used to the guys at DivX peddling 640 or 720 width... that even talking 720p or 1080p is pretty rare. That said, most of my friends and associates here in George only use/download low res Xvid material and except for a couple of PS3's nobody even has a blu-ray drive (let alone HD stuff). iTu...

Re: Resolution vs. Bitrate

OK... in my example, forget that it's interlaced.

Pretend it's 1080p at a lower bitrate and 720p at a higher bitrate... that was what I was trying to convey.

Re: Resolution vs. Bitrate

Could this be related to the argument of 1080i vs 720p? For slower moving content such as talk shows, comedies, nature shows, or whatever, they recommend 1080i, while for sports and other fast moving TV content, they recommend 720p. Obviously 1080p is the best, but not an option for cable/satellite ...

Re: When to use Detelecine

Ah ha!

That makes sense. Maybe somewhere on the HandBrake manual you should just write that. ;)

Thanks for the info.

So, if the video looks like this, I should have detelecined it? I would imagine it would be hard to differentiate that from interlacing...

When to use Detelecine

I have read the HandBrake manual (specifically this link: http://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/Telecine) and I understand what 3:2 pulldown is, but what I am wondering is... is there an easy way to know when to use this feature or not? You can easily see when a movie/TV show is interlaced, for example, but...

Re: Picture Settings GUI improvement

Actually, it is...I had forgotten blindjimmy's stuff got in before 0.9.2. Which raises the question for me: what is confusing about the way things are now? When anamorphic is enabled, you see the anamorphic display size. When anamorphic is disabled, you see the non-anamorphic display size. When you...

jbrjake wrote:Um, but when you say "now" do you mean "the way things were in October when 0.9.1 was released" or the way things actually are right now?
I was assuming the frame preview window looks the same in 0.9.2 as it does in 0.9.1.

Re: Picture Settings GUI improvement

I know that my vote doesn't count toward anything important here, but I thought this was really cool. I would go as far as to say the way things are now are even more confusing to users who do not know what Anamorphic PAR is. If this doesn't make it, it would be nice to see some sort of side by side...

Panther was released in 2003 (5 years ago) and its last update was in 2005 (3 years ago).

Time to update :)

Ha, just be prepared to replace your MacBook Pro fans eventually. I just replaced the right fan last week, and one of my roommates had Apple replace his left fan last year. I am not blaming HandBrake, but, haha ;) 6000rpm for so many hours really takes a toll on those little guys (fans). Anyway, I a...

Even though I, and everyone else I know, already use Leopard, I think it would be a mistake to cancel Tiger support so soon. Although, I think if you offered HandBrake 0.9.1 for Tiger users and the latest versions for Leopard users, it would give Tiger users some motivation to upgrade to Leopard, bu...

Thanks for posting all of your old posts. Anamorphic PAR has behaved differently for me and my other friends who use HandBrake since the latest version (0.9.0 or 0.9.1). Instead of using the right aspect ratio, when checked, it just presented a distorted image which you could not make any larger tha...

Gee, excuse me for confusing two gaming consoles with the same name.

How in the world could I confuse those? Why in the world would I assume he was talking about the Xbox 360?

My reply was regarding thatbox's post: Depending on your x264 settings, the Xbox is fairly likely to simply not have enough power to decode the video. I'd recommend using MPEG-4/XviD instead, as it is much less demanding to decode. My Xbox has always been successful dealing with XviD, but often chok...

If the DVD source is 720x400 But it *isn't*. That is why I asked. So, you are saying that if standard definition movies are anamorphic, the source content's resolution can be 854 by XXX? I watch high bitrate x264-encoded content (from HandBrake) on my XBOX 360 (using Connect 360) all of the time. The XBOX 360 can easily handle it.
