Re: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION on 0.93
try running it in Administrator mode. (right click the icon, should be an option for it) I don't really understand why some Vista machines don't like it and some do. That did the trick! Thanks! FWIW, this is a plain vanilla Vista install on a machine i built 3 days ago. It has almost *nothing* on i...

Handbrake Crashing
0.92 seems to have become far less stable. I have a bunch of crashes that i've run into. Would the crash logs be helpful? If so, who should i send them to?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Graceful Crash Recovery
As a developer, the answer seems fairly simple to me. Just take your in memory data structure and use any of the existing serialization mechanisms ot write it out to a file. Yes...that's the idea. Output the user-set parts of the job struct in the key-value form used by the presets.plist But it's n...

In .net (as just one example) you could just create an XmlSerializer which you could save the structure to. Reading the data b...

Re: Is the CLI version faster than the GUI at encoding?
Sure. But that's error prone and annoying to do manually. I'm looking for a way to get the CLI string automatically after i've followed all the nice and easy steps in the GUI. Similar to how the advanced tab shows the 264 options, but for the entire set of things i've configured.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Is the CLI version faster than the GUI at encoding?
What would 'tiny' be like? 1% , 5%?
Thanks!
Also, is there a way to determine the appropriate command line given the current GUI configuration?

Is the CLI version faster than the GUI at encoding?
I've heard (unsubstantiated) information that running Handbrake from the command line will help encode things a few frames faster than the GUI (when using the same settings obviously). I wanted to check if that actually was the case. I'm interested in this because i have a *lot* of DVDs that i'm cre...

Re: AppleTV preset. Why 1pass instead of 2?
FWIW, i encoded an action movie using the AppleTV preset (with 2passes instead of 1). It looked good and played great from my XBox360 streaming from my server. So i think i'll just stick with those options for now.
Thanks all for your help.

Could you let me know what that preset is? Or is it not ready yet.realityking wrote:There is one in the svn but not in the current release (0.9.1).Cavalicious wrote:Don't we have a 360-Preset...or were we just getting feedback to produce one?
Is the plan to release it in the next Handbrake release?
Thanks!

Limiting bitrate for trailers
A long long time ago, i used to use some compression tool (whose name i've totally forgotten) that let you specify where the credits of a movie started so that you could limit bandwidth in those regions. Useful for dropping the quality down very low for this unimportant part so that the rest of the ...

Re: AppleTV preset. Why 1pass instead of 2?
Cool. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought i might be missing something.
An XBox360 preset would be appreciated
Or, alternatively, you could just rename 'AppleTV' to' AppleTV/XBox360', if it is a good preset for that purpose.
I'd be happy to help out if you need anything.

Re: AppleTV preset. Why 1pass instead of 2?
Well, as you can see, my intent is not to harass, only to learn. Maybe i should rephrase my original question as: What would be the upsides to changing this to 2-pass? What would be the downsides? For the upsides, i believe that the end quality should be better. The downside is a potentially longer ...

AppleTV preset. Why 1pass instead of 2?
Hi All, I searched for an answer to this question, but wasn't able to find anything. Hopefully one of you will be able to shed some light on this. I'm currently using the 'AppleTV' preset to encode my DVDs so that i can serve them from my 'Windows Home Server' to my Xbox360. I chose that preset beca...
