Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

If, as the Wiki suggests, CABAC "makes the AppleTV struggle" why insist on using it for this setting?

Honest question, I don't mean to imply that turning CABAC on is incorrect here I just don't understand and would like too. Thanks.

Re: iPod / iPhone / Apple TV setting suggestions wanted

Here's the advanced string I use... stolen from another on the forum (bad memory so not sure who from now). cabac=0:ref=2:analyse=all:me=umh:subq=6:no-fast-pskip=1:trellis=1:mixed-refs=1:merange=32:level=30 I use CQ of 70 which some might think is a bit high but I don't mind the wait or the slightly...

Re: About to Convert 400+ DVD's and need a Reality Check...

Couple thoughts from what I've gleaned so far; Going above 70 with Constant Quality starts to return diminishing results and is often seen as the maximum setting You can do one encode that will work for both AppleTV with 5.1 surround and iPhone/iPod Touch with stereo if you make some changes to the ...

0.9.2 crash after encode form external drive

Didn't read the sticky about posting bugs before I started encoding again so no verbose log right now and since HB crashes I can't pull from the Activity Window... but it's the same as the HandBrake-activitylog.txt right? I've had the crash a couple times now so I'll set up HB to reproduce it again ...

Re: Random crashes with queue?

For me it's just nice to know that I'm not the only one with the problem. If I were then it must mean something's wrong on my end... problem with my computer, my discs, my process, whatever. Now that I know others are having a similar problemm and it seems like we've started to narrow it down a bit,...

Re: Random crashes with queue?

It sucks because when this happens I loose all the chapter titles I type in :( I've been playing around a bit and I think it might have something to do with the chapter titles. HB seems to become much more stable when I don't enter chapter titles. I've only had it crash like you and I are referring...

Re: Random crashes with queue?

Here's mine... added a Video_TS folder from an external drive, changed chapter titles and added to queue... hit Source to grab the next folder from the same drive and before it begins scanning HB crashes out. If I'm reading this right (yeah... that's likely... NOT) I don't think there's anything the...

You're looking at the current fps then? I generally look at the average so the end is the better measure.

What else about the encode information are you looking at that the 50% mark would help?

it would sort of suck if my innocent [?] post about increasing storage was locked but then things happen i really do hope that apple updates the AppleTV and/or allows Time Capsule to be used as a an external drive for it someday... from everything I've found that's not going to be part of TC's initi...

Re: Solution ideas for increased AppleTV storage

No... nothing hacked yet. The stuff I was reading online suggested that some of the hacks needed to be updated for the 2.0 release... that and I have only limited knowledge about hacks and the like. I can usually get them working but I have NO idea what I did, why it worked or what to do if somethin...

Re: Encoding Question

For a direct one-to-one copy try pulling the Video-TS folder from the DVD to your HD... course you probably won't be able to cause of the copy protection so use something like Mac the Ripper (assuming your on a Mac of course <grin>) to remove the protection... wait... can I say that here? Anyway, if...

Solution ideas for increased AppleTV storage

I recently bought a 160 gb AppleTV and have been trying to work out how to fit all my movies and tv shows in this limited space. I know I can stream from my computer (currently a G4 Powerbook in desperate need of an upgrade to a MacBook Pro) to the AppleTV and that this option opens up a lot of door...

Let the flooding of "How do I compile SVN" begin! :P Well, for a first timer I gotta say, if you search the forum a bit (and this thread in particular - hint, hint) it's really pretty easy! Of course I'm not really sure what I did or why it worked or what all the new buttons and options a...
