Re: Poor audio mix-down
I think at least DRC 1.0 can't hurt, especially since it's only compressing the dynamic range according to how the source's AC3 track "hints" at how it should be done.

What does native VFR time stamp handling mean for Handbrake?
x264 now has "native VFR time stamp handling". My uneducated impression is that this means regardless of the framerate, x264 will mux the audio and video by itself without Handbrake's help. Is this the case?

Does it matter if the AC3 or DPLII track comes first?
Can someone explain what happens if one track is put in front of the other? Does the first track become the default? Does it even matter?

Re: Poor audio mix-down
I'm a little curious myself. Even when I encode using CoreAudio @ 320 kbps, the AC3 track is much louder.

Oh, wow. That article has a lot to say about it's ability to read through scratches, which greatly interests me. However, it's $120, which isn't chump change. Does it work with a Mac?

Yeah, external is what I meant. Thank you—that looks like a great deal! If I get the extra cash, I'll definitely plop down for that or something better if someone has a better suggestion.

What optical drive do you guys use?
A couple years back I wore down my laptop's built-in optical drive while importing my DVD collection like mad, so I got a new one put in under warranty. Well, I'm still into importing DVDs, but I don't want to wear out my laptop's optical drive and my warranty go out, so I think I'm gonna' need a mo...

Re: Change the Encode Finish sound.
There should be a different alert sound played when an encode is finished. The current one sounds like the Default Error Alert sound on OS X. A better option would be to use the "Glass" as it sounds like a dinner bell which is used to signify when an order is ready. Or even the "Hero...

Re: Save Deinterlace setting in custom Preset
I wish I knew why. It doesn't work for me. Either for 0.9.4 or the lastest SVN, both 64-bit Mac builds. I even deleted the old preferences and cache and all such other application support, but it just doesn't work. Issues with all picture filters in custom presets or just Deinterlace? I do know the...

Re: Save Deinterlace setting in custom Preset
well, when you save you're custom preset you have to check the box that says "use current filters" in order for whatever filters you have enabled to be saved. has worked since 0.9.3. and has been broken since 0.9.4, at least on the 64-bit Mac end. I've been using it without issue on the 6...

How do I set strict Pyramidal B-Frames in the option string?
When I select Pyramidal B-Frames in Handbrake, it becomes "b-pyramid=1" in the advanced option string. Dark Shikari, when he made B-Pyramid spec-compliant , said that... Two modes are now available: 1) strict b-pyramid, while worse for compression, follows the rule mandated by Blu-ray (no ...

Re: Please critique my high-fidelity setting.
I'm a little cautious on using too many reference frames. Reference frames, right now, seem to be everything when it comes to decoding videos, and I don't want my videos to be difficult to play back. 4 is the limit for Blu-ray, so I'm going to try to keep it at 4 if I can help it. At the moment I'm ...

Is it even possible to utilize subme10 with Handbrake?
I'm using svn3036 x86_64 (2009121901), and I tried using subme10 (I know it requires trellis=2 and aq-mode > 0, so I put trellis to 2, and I heard aq-mode is, by default, 1, so I didn't bother manually setting it), but it turned psychovisual rate distortion optimization completely off. So I manually...

I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that I'm using the latest SVN, which has the latest build of x264, which doesn't have that problem.

Please critique my high-fidelity setting.
I've been working to get smart high-fidelity encodes for some time now, and I've managed to find a well-working setting: + encoder: x264 (r1376-3feaec2) + quality: 19.00 (RF) + options: ref=4:bframes=4:b-adapt=2:direct=auto:b-pyramid=1:rc-lookahead=60:me=umh:subq=9:merange=24:analyse=all:trellis=2:n...

"Use Current Picture Filters" when creating a preset broken.
I didn't see this in the Trac, so I'll say that when creating your own preset in Version 0.9.4 x86_64 (2009112300) or svn3036 x86_64 (2009121901), the selected video filters aren't saved when you ask Handbrake to "Use Current Picture Filters". Since the log ends at... [18:02:15] libhb: sca...

The activity log says a feature I selected isn't supported.
In the following activity log, it says "x264 [warning]: b-pyramid + mb-tree is not supported". Would someone please look through the log and explain how come? Did b-pyramid fly in the face of some other setting I had selected? Also, how would I get mb-tree to work? Thank you! EDIT: I know ...
