Re: superfast smaller than slow?

Constant quality (CQ) encoding will produce roughly the same quality output for every source for a given fixed set of settings. If you change any of the other video encoder settings, the quality of the output will change slightly. There are a variety of reasons that this happens and I'm not really e...

As far as documentation goes 1.0.0 == 1.0.7. All 1.0.x releases are only bug fixes. No enhancements, no UI changes aside from bug fixes.

Re: Converting H.265 6K Photo files in full rez gives black frames

In addition, due to a limit on the number of 16x16 macroblocks on a per-frame basis (36,864 at level 5.2), the maximum resolution of a compliant H.264 bitstream is 4,096 by 2,304 pixels (or, in the case of a 1.33:1 ratio like your files, 3,520 by 2,640 pixels). Hmm, I wonder if we should find a way...

Re: diff filter complementing preview function

You can still get PSNR and SSIM metrics in the log by enabling the respective encoder tune option. Those numbers don't mean much without the tune enabled, so we disable them in the logs when the tune isn't selected.

Any chance you could provide a sample that causes this problem? I'm curious what the root cause is and would like to investigate a bit.

Don't use mp3 in the mp4 container. It's not well supported.
By not well supported, ritsuka means Apple products (and a few others) don't support playback of mp3 audio in mp4 container.

What exactly do you mean by "cut off on the sides"? According to your log, 10 pixels total were cut from the sides. Is this what you are referring to? If so, mduell's suggestion may help. But I have seen some video where, for whatever reason, there were thin black bars on the side of the original vi...

Re: DTS-HD Decoding

I thought Handbrake already did DTS-MA decoding, meaning transcoding to FLAC is possible (some players can't do the lossless part of DTS-MA plus it's a commercial codec so there are licensing issues, but FLAC is FOSS--spec is BSD, program is GPL). Only the DTS core is decoded. HandBrake uses libav ...

Definitely not a supported configuration by the HandBrake developers. But the GTK GUI can be built for windows. And the Broadway GDK backend can be run on windows. http://www.tarnyko.net/en/?q=node/8 So in theory, it could be done

Re: How To Monitor Handbrake Process From The Web?

Something interesting I just discovered the other day. You can run the Linux GUI using the Broadway GDK backend. Broadway renders the UI using HTML5 and WebSockets. So, assuming you have a stable public IP and domain name, with a little magic using your favourite httpd server and reverse proxy setti...

Old versions of HandBrake can't hardsub text subtitles (SRT, SSA, CC, TX3G, UTF8). Hardsubbing of text subtitles was first added in the 0.10.0 release.

Re: VIDEO H264 cropped is greater then the same video no-cropped

I already explained why the non-cropped video is smaller than the cropped video. But as I said in that post, I probably didn't explain it well. I'll give it another shot. When you pick a specific RF, the encoder is going to try to make the average quality of the video meet a metric that is defined b...

Re: VIDEO H264 cropped is greater then the same video no-cropped

Interesting. This would be a good question for the x264 developers. I'm not exactly an expert in these things and I'm probably going to explain this poorly. But I would expect that the algorithms used for estimating picture quality would be significantly affected by large amounts of black space. The...

Have you tried remuxing your mov files with a simple muxer (e.g. mkvmerge) rather than all the re-encoding with AE. Assuming all the input files have the same type of tracks in the same order and are all the same resolution, you can create one unified mkv file without re-encoding by mkvmerge -o out....

Re: How to flip a video?

The Linux GUI does not have this option. You'll have to use the CLI on Linux if you really need to flip (i.e. mirror) videos. I didn't add this filter option because mirroring the image is a less often needed option than rotation and I'm stingy about adding more widgets to the GUI.

HandBrake doesn't create any such file. It's possible one of the system support libraries associated with gtk, glib, dbus, etc could be doing this. But HandBrake doesn't *ask* that any file be created. Also, typically HandBrake wouldn't have permissions to create files in your root directory. Only r...
