Re: Conversion result not like original?

HandBrake detects and automatically crops black boarders around video. In cases such as yours where there is a brief sequence that renders video into the black border area, HandBrake can get the cropping wrong. You can manually disable cropping on the picture pane in the UI.

Re: HandbrakeCLI scanning an HD Blu-ray directory, mpls_parse

Noted. There is a workaround, but this is also a bug becuse this functionality works against normal blu-ray rips as a directory, whereas it doesn't work as intended scanning the same UHD blu-ray directory. :) Where in HandBrake's documentation do you see it say that UHD bluray is supported :mrgreen...

Well, technically you need to use VBV if you want your stream to be fully compliant with the spec, but setting your H.264 level to anything other than "auto" already takes care of that aspect.
That falls under use case 2 in my list. "Known limited capabilities".

Re: How do I do a Variable Bitrate Encode with a Maximum Bitrate?

I left out one twist on use case 3 from the list above that may actually apply to you. You have a collection of videos that is mostly low complexity (i.e. it is easily encoded to high quality with low bitrate), but you have a few videos that are high complexity and you want all videos in the collect...

Re: How do I do a Variable Bitrate Encode with a Maximum Bitrate?

This whole situation came about when I wanted to see how much quality I could retain/make the video look its best for me, when limiting the bitrate/filesize There are only a few reasons anyone should use vbv settings. You are streaming over a network with known limited bandwidth Your playback devic...

Perhaps a stupid question but if Handbrake only supports 8-bit, there's still 10/12-bit options available for HEVC-encoding. What's the point of that?

Heh, it's been so long since we've had a release, I forgot that this wasn't added till after 1.0.x was released. So as you observed, it's only in the nightly builds.

Re: Framerate conversion PAL->NTSC-DVD back to PAL/mkv

What output framerate are you using in HandBrake? HandBrake has a smart decimator that may help if you set a constant output framerate. When converting to CFR, HandBrake will preferentially drop duplicate frames when it decides that it must drop a frame in order to match the requested framerate. So ...

Re: Ripping BR/DVD as HEVC 10/12-bit?

Keep in mind that what is being stored in 10/12 bits is not the original spatial domain pixel values, but rather the temporal domain coefficients. When converting from spatial to temporal, there are rounding errors where information is lost. Also, coefficients are deliberately quantized (more inform...

Re: Parallel filtering of multiple frames

I guess most (if not all) image filters are single threaded Several HandBrake filters are in fact multi-threaded. nlmeans, lapsharp, unsharp, grayscale, decomb, combdetect are all multi-threaded. Detelecine, hqdn3d, deblock, cropscale, rotate, deinterlace, pad are single threaded. Some of the singl...

Re: Switching Field Order with Decomb Bob

My understanding is that the detelecine filter should "do the right thing" when no pulldown is present? In theory, yes. In practice, no. The detelcine filter looks for a specific cadence of interlaced vs. non-interlaced frames. It can be fooled by video sequences that spoof this cadence. And for so...

Re: udfread ERROR: ECMA 167 Volume Recognition failed

Thanks for posting your activity log. The udfread error is just HandBrake checking if the file is a BD image. This always happens, same as the libdvdread error that happens next when HandBrake probes to see if it is a DVD image. The actual error is probably this [10:21:43] file is MPEG Program Strea...

It should be "русский". The list shows only native language names, but is in alphabetical order sorted by the English traslation so it can be a difficult to find languages even when you are a native speaker. We should really show the English translation in parenthesis or something next to the native...

Re: FRAME RATE / convert var to constant changes the length of the clip PLEASE HELP

correct me maybe i am wrong 1 sec is 30 frames Your wrong. You selected 29.97 fps output framerate. So 1 second is 29.97 frames in your output file. in the log it says 11 frames dropped Your source was 300.28 seconds and 9011 frames. The number of frames when converting to 29.97fps will be 300.28 *...

Re: FRAME RATE / convert var to constant changes the length of the clip PLEASE HELP

How are you determining duration? According to the log, your original is *not* 5:00.08. It is 5:00.28. Also according to the log, 9000 frames were output. At 29.97fps framerate, the duration is 5:00.30. The difference between 5.00.28 and 5.00.30 is less than 1 frame duration which is exactly what I ...

It works pretty much the same way on linux. You open a folder, HandBrake scans all the files within that folder. Then you can add a batch of titles (aka files) to the queue with the Queue menu option "Add Multiple"

It's probably just another case of "libav aac encoder sucks". I just wanted to be sure. The comb detection has very few false positives which is why it is enabled by ...

According to your log, yadif bob is properly enabled and framerate looks appropriate. You've added the comb detect filter which is usually a good thing, but that can result in some differences in behaviour from vlc's yadif 2x. Is there some specific reason you are unsure of the results? You've reall...
