Re: VP8 support broken in 1.1.0?
Thanks! I had a feeling it was a HandBrake bug as I found it odd that VLC was able to play one video but not the other, even though they're supposed to be the same specification!

VP8 support broken in 1.1.0?
With version 1.0.7 I was able to produce good quality VP8 video using any of the built-in MKV VP8 presets. However, since upgrading to 1.1.0, I've not been able to produce a watchable file using the built-in presets. No matter which preset I pick or what video I choose, they always come out looking ...

Re: Movies that have partial subtitles
I have a question about the idea behind this thread. Isn't the way the program is supposed to work to get these "intermittent" subtitles to display is to go to the "Audio & Subtitles" tab button, in the "Subtitles" pane at the "Subtitles" dropdown select ...

Re: Just Sound?
Some DVD ripping programs may also allow you to extract the AC3 audio file from the title on the DVD you choose. You can then use an audio conversion program that supports AC3 as input.

VisualHub can burn DVDs. I've used it to do that before
Roxio's Toast Titanium can burn DVDs too, but it's not free.

Re: VisualHub Discontinued
Shame really. It's a great program. I use it to convert downloaded videos (trailers, flash etc) for playing on my PSP.
Good thing that the author has released the source code for it (as well as his other programs), so hopefully someone will pick it up and release later versions.

Re: Handbrake on the Mac for the computer illiterate
Also, are you trying to copy a commercial DVD? If so, you shouldn't be doing that because that is piracy.
Also, seeing as you are computer illiterate, DVD-5 is the technical name for single layer DVD and DVD-9 is the technical name for double layer DVD.

Re: Subtitles
Have you tried selecting autoselect and then checking the forced subtitles box? That's what I do and it works for me all the time.
Re: War
Mac The Ripper is a DVD copying application. Not only does it copy the files from the DVD to a specified location on your hard drive, but also removes copy protections and CSS.

Re: PSP Settings for DVDs
Hey guys, I'm confused about PSP resolutions and aspect ratios. I just converted "There Will Be Blood" from my DVD using Handbrake. This is a 2.35:1 movie. At first i used the 480x272 resolution, but the video came out w/ a vertical stretch. ie, people were tall and skinny. I searched and...
Re: Subtitles
Try encoding it again with the 'Forced Subtitles Only' box unchecked. This normally works with some DVDs.

Re: Subtitles missing
Here's how I do it:
First of all, I choose Autoselect with the forced subtitles checkbox unchecked. This works fine most of the time, but if there is a problem (i.e. too many or too few subtitles) then I simply re-encode the film again with the forced subtitles box checked. Easy!

Re: There is no way to encode h.264 for both PSP and iPod
Yep Needs to be AVC MP4 as well.
You can use standard MP4 if you want to play video on both PSP and iPod. However, not only is the video quality lower than that of AVC, the PSP also blows up the picture because of the bigger screen, making things slightly blurry.

Re: Once Ripped can I copy to DVD with Handbrake
You will need to rip it with Mac The Ripper first (to remove any copy protections on the disc). After that you can use either Toast or Popcorn to burn the DVD.

Re: Once Ripped can I copy to DVD with Handbrake
If you want to copy a DVD use Mac The Ripper then use a DVD burning program such as Toast. As sr55 said, Handbrake is just for converting DVDs to MP4, AVI etc for watching on devices such as iPod, AppleTV, PSP etc

Re: There is no way to encode h.264 for both PSP and iPod
If you want to watch it on PSP at full res as well as on your iPod, then the real problem is to do with CABAC. The iPod won't play CABAC videos, yet the PSP needs CABAC if you want to view your movies at full resolution on your PSP.

Re: HandBrake will not work when canceling update menu
Go to Preferences and untick the 'Check for Updates' box. Restart the application and everything should be OK.
This procedure works because I had the same problem as you last night. Doing the above solved it
