Video quality settings for @TV Take 2...

You could set the vbv-maxsize and vbv-bufsize (I think those are the names, I'm at work so I can't verify). This would basically set a ceiling for bitrate spikes. This was very important on the ATV1.0, but I have yet to encode a file that dropped frames due to these spikes with the ATV2.0. Maybe if...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

I'm sure I'll throw out my current encodes and bump up CRF to .66-.68 as soon as Steve announces the 32 and 64GB 3G iPhone later this year. Wouldn't be the first (or second, or third) time I've restarted. Can you give me a quick (layman's) explanation of why you use CRF at 60-something percen...

Is there an equivalent to AnyDVD for the Mac? Mac the Ripper seems to be rather out of date, and I'd like to avoid installing Windows on my Mac. Thanks for any info!

Re: HandBrake 0.9.2 -- Does it break mp4 compatibility w/AC3

It would be interesting to discover how many Mac users have downloaded and use HandBrake to the number that have downloaded and use Perian. I would expect that these two universes overlap considerably. This thread has strayed a bit, but I know the mod's frown on creating new one's for no reason, so...

Re: File Size for new ATV format (inc AC3) of a DVD

If it helps, my encode of "300" was about 2.25Gb - this was at 2500kbps, dual-pass, with AC3 passthrough only (no AAC track). Buy lots and lots of Gb's... or Tb's! Can probably find better deals online than at Big Buy. Anyone know of an affordable 4- or 5-bay enclosure with RAID 5 support ...

Re: What are the NEW settings for AppleTV?

Any idea if it is going to be possible to convert already-encoded movies to use a DD 5.1 audio stream? I've been encoding my movies using 6 channel discrete AAC in anticipation of eventual DD 5.1 support. Unless you also kept the AC3 audio around, it's probably not possible. No receivers will decod...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

It is one of the working assumptions with movie rentals (watch them where you want: ATV, iPhone, iPod); I expect the support to be limited to 480p content, just like the iPods. This means that iPhone will carry the file with the DD content, but will likely playback only the AAC soundtrack ... Cheer...

Re: What's with the Gestapo admins????

Sure the admins can be a bit harsh at times, but they also deal with a lot of basic questions that could have been answered with a little bit of digging through the threads that are already there. I haven't noticed deleting (which is not to say it hasn't happened, because how the heck would I know),...

Its a no no for the very reason you winked. Oh well. A guy can hope, right? Any ETA on the next release? A few days? A few weeks? A few months? Just curious so I can plan if I should hold off encoding or not. No pressure. The devs probably don't hear this enough, but you are VERY appreciated...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

So for those of us who aren't able to work with the source files (aka, don't want to come crawling back to the forums when I screw something up), is there any way to get a compiled version with the new tweaks? Can someone who has compiled the latest build post a link to it? Or is that a no-no? ...un...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

I'd wait, because even if you figure out the simple commands to compile the code (and publicly available in the wiki), something will likely not be right and you'll be back here wondering why in the world code that is meant for developers to work on isn't producing the result you are expecting. The...

"Better" is debatable. "Louder" is true for sure. But, yes, support for more variants would be better. Choice is good and many do consider DTS to be better.

is there any chance that HB will allow AC3 passthrough with that container? Re: AppleTV take 2 is out (hurray!)

.Mov containers do not allow Artwork to be added in iTunes from what I remember. Also, Visual Hub does not do Chapter Markers, and that is a must for me. Sticking with Handbrake. .Mov files can have artwork added in iTunes. Chapter markers are a big deal - agreed! Since it looks like Apple is using...

HB team release DD 5.1 support don't get your hopes to high. OK, I admit I don't know much (er, anything) about the technical underpinnings of all this video/audio format stuff. But, it seems like it wouldn't take much to take H.264 video and AC3 audio and stuff them into a .mov container. Am I mis...
