Re: proposed 0.9.4 presets
that means encoding with x264 at CQ 59%, audio (I think) is ac3 track encoded to aac at 160 kbps, mkv container, and the rest (minus the --detelecine --decomb part) just goes in the x264 settings box.

Wonderful. Thank you, Ritsuka!Ritsuka wrote:Not from raw. But from mov/mp4. And from mkv or ac3 if you save them as mov from quicktime (a reference file is enough).

Re: Subler (like Muxo, maybe better?)
Experimental tracks import from mov and new mp4 file creation It's now possibile to create new mp4 file in Subler and import tracks from mov file. Tested with H.264 (with avc1 fourcc, broken H.264 from avi is not supported), AAC, AC-3, 3GPP Text Subtitles, SRT Subtitles (created with perian) and Ch...

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.
Because compression can make files smaller at negligible quality loss and subtitles are lovely when a movie isn't in a language you understand.Dj_AmTraX wrote:Thank you for the info. One question to all. Why do you want Subtitles & Compression?

Re: DVD -> H.264 CQ62%, very large file results
If even 3 GB is too large for comfort, you could consider dropping the CQ value down a point or two. With all that grain, it might not make too much of a difference.

Re: Faster Mac same settings slower encode? Help!
Whoa, I only just realized that there were two different posters (bevelmon and mblatchford)... that was stupid. However, I has just looking at the OP, and those x264 strings are very different, even if the double-pass options are included (I use CFR, I've never learned the intricacies of 2-pass enco...

Re: Faster Mac same settings slower encode? Help!
No, you're not using the same settings. The first encode log has x264 string: ref=3:mixed-refs=1:bframes=6:weightb=1:direct=auto:b-pyramid=1:me=umh:subq=9:analyse=all:8x8dct=1:trellis=1:nr=150:no-fast-pskip=1:psy-rd=1,1:ref=1:subme=1:me=dia:analyse=none:trellis=0:no-fast-pskip=0:8x8dct=0:weightb=0 w...

Re: EEDI2 Port
Just to clarify my earlier tests, I used standard DVDs of the tested Black Adder episode, encoded at the same resolution as on the dvd. The screenshots are 1440 x 900 since that's my screen's resolution. To take screenshots, I opened the files in quicktime (to allow for multiple open files at once) ...

Anyone else unable to patch the latest svn with this? Is there any chance that this will ever be committed to trunk?

Re: EEDI2 Port
Sorry for the confusion, I'd forgotten that the custom string box had been replaced after it was removed from the Preferences Pane. Anyway, here are my results so far. I find that eedi2 provides a minor benefit over yadif at a significant hit to encoding speed. The eedi2 encode is slightly smaller t...

Re: EEDI2 Port
Ok, running new encodes using the CLI. Just to make sure before I run it, could I turn off decomb in the CLI using --decomb=0:0? I've been looking through the old decomb threads but there's no clear answer that I kind see.

well, with default settings, I get the following: yadif: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2195/picture3xbn.th.png eedi2: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/9303/picture2dyq.th.png I'm guessing that I need to find a better source, though. Maybe this image, which still contains combing similar to the or...

Re: EEDI2 Port
I'll run some tests this afternoon, see how encodes look. I know that the old yadif decomb didn't perfectly work on my interlaced sources (blackadder episodes, mostly), so we'll see how this works. edit: i'm using the MacGUI and teh latest SVN, and I'm getting very minor results between no decomb, y...

Re: Does Apple Universal preset play on a PS3?
Universal should include both stereo and surround tracks, and the inclusion of that surround track is what the PS3 can't handle. I cannot vouch for this since I don't own a PS3, but maybe if you just modify the universal preset by cutting out the AC3 (surrond) passthrough in the encode, then it migh...

Re: [PATCH] High quality AAC encoder on Mac OS X

"Activity Window" --> "Activity Log"
This is very minor, but I wonder if it would make it at all more clear to new users where to find the activity log they so often disregard if the button "Activity Window" in the Mac GUI were renamed "Activity Log?" It seems obvious to me, but maybe that trips some people up. Then...

try rechecking out, running ./configure, then running ./jam. I know it's not how we're supposed to build it, but maybe it'll work. You could then run make afterwards.

SVN 2119: can't use DRC = 0 in GUI?
Just compiled latest SVN, hoping to be able to take advantage of getting rid of DRC. I know it says that the interface still assumes default as DRC = 1, but is there anyway to actually set it to 0 yet, or is the code just there, waiting to be implemented? Turning the DRC dial just makes it go up...
