i am not sure what the status of perian and MKV files are currently, but when i did testing i know perian could not handle the streaming of the MKV container at all. i was also affected by stutter when files were copied locally. this issue is related to Perian and the MKV container support. please c...

First time Handbrake user, on a new MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz 15", and I seem to have hit this problem with the very first DVD I tried to rip: Finding Nemo . It was getting < 1 fps, reporting 36+ hours to complete, and my CPU utilization was < 10%. And the DVD drive was "squeaking" like it...

i would have to agree with rhester, make sure your computer has enough breathing room to ventilate itself, although i am not sure how good a job macminis are at keeping cool, im assuming the ventilation is pretty poor. you need to make sure your fans are kicking in to move the hot air out, thats if ...

hey guys, i was wondering if any of you have been able to replicate the audio drop when keeping the original AC3 audio? i would be very curious to see if some of you could re-run the encode that dropped audio and ask HB to keep the original audio track instead of encoding the audio. will the audio d...

if you want true surround sound playing from your ATV, you can rip your DVDs with the AC3 audio track (no workaround encoding needed), then you need to hack your ATV and use ATVFiles/Perian/A52Codec to pass the AC3 stream from the ATV directly to your receiver for processing. the only issue with thi...

Cava, thank you very much for the lengthy and precise post. i do appreciate your time. i have always used MTR to rip the DVDs to HD first. i am very clear on the fact that HB is not a DVD ripper, it is an encoder and i prefer it as such. DVD2ONEX is the step i dont find to be a true fix. obviously o...

@cavalicious: after reading your post it seems like you are asking users not to post their experiences with dropped audio. the solution does not lay in a huge crazy workaround making use of external applications, but within handbrake. i feel that any report from a user is valuable and should be paid...

I'll be goddamned. I unchecked "create chapter markers", and the Incredibles ripped without dropping a second of audio! Thanks for the tip! I wonder why that affects the sound issue at all? thats good news, but, to be honest with you, in order for any theory to hold water, you need to dup...

This is a perfect example of what not to post. In all the solutions posted, never was using MTR 2.6.6 part of the solution. So your "test" were doomed from the begining. All you really proved was the fact that version was indeed what not to use. Unfortuanly, this will only confuse the uni...

Anamorphic on or off didn't make a difference on my DVD's. note i said i took the resolution down to 640x... i did not limit myself to non-anamorphic. i would recomend you try again and take the resolution down to 640, if that doesnt work , try 320... not that you would want to encode at that size,...

if you want to playback you should not use anamorphic encoding, the ipod does not support it.

sorry i do not have more details, but this is the basic rule:

IF ipod THEN no anamorphic :-)

i dont see how not enough ram can be linked to a noisy machine? from what i ready i think your CPU is working hard, which means temperatures go up, and the machine needs to cool itself down to be in operable temperatures by setting the RPMs on the fans up. this generates higher airflow to blow out t...

Your receiver will not decode AAC 5.1 and I don't think you'll find any receivers that will. Unless you want to hack your Apple TV, go with DPL2. even if you hack your ATV, AAC5.1 is currently useless, there is no way to decode AAC5.1 to AC3 on the fly from the ATV and pass it through to the receiv...

Re: Loss of sound and slow encoding (~10 fps)

1. RIP with MTR the main feature of the DVD i recomend you change your first step here to full disk instead of main feature. it seems to give a greater success rate and only takes a few minutes more to rip, there might be something about the way MTR is reauthoring to strip out all other content.
