System Log Error
I continue to lockup with HB 0.9.8 on 10.8 late 2008 MBP, 8GB RAM. Can someone help me translate this message or suggestions so that I can hopefully find the problem? Much appreciated. 4/23/13 5:35:41.178 PM HandBrake[679]: *** Assertion failure in -[NSTextFieldCell _objectValue:forString:errorDescr...

Re: Handbrake causing Lion to freeze up
Interesting. I did one more thing. Set Energy Saver to Better Battery, despite having the MBP plugged in for power. No lock up or freezes. Running all the test mentioned above. After a few days I have a huge page out number of 14.48GB, 3.5GB Page ins. I have 8GB RAM, and MBP has a little lag opening...

Re: Handbrake causing Lion to freeze up
I will. I'm currently running with the Activity Monitor for the day with my daily workflow to see if Apple memory management is causing these page outs. It's been 4 hours and so far no page outs. Tonight I'll run HB alone and post the log. If the MB locks up, I hope the log sticks and doesn't go bye...

Re: Handbrake causing Lion to freeze up

Re: Handbrake causing Lion to freeze up
Each time I run handbrake after several hours I start to loose the ability to launch applications. Finder has spinning beach ball and have to force quit apps. I try to launch the apps again such as finder, address book safari and so on but they just lock up and have to force quit. It only happens w...

Re: Auto Crop on 0.9.5 a i386 always at zero
What processor does your iMac use (Apple Menu > About This Mac)? Oh its the old 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo. Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the highest this machine can go. OS version is not relevant. Even Tiger (OS X 10.4) can run 64-bit applications. Unfortunately, your processor (Core Duo) is not 64-bit capable...

Oh duh. I just checked, no version for 32 bit for Intel Mac. Oh well.

Re: Auto Crop on 0.9.5 a i386 always at zero
I believe that there is no support for prior versions of Handbrake. I think you would find the current nightly releases to be much better. Unless you need to target a file size. Or if you still need to use 0.9.5 because of the OS, then you might be able to find out when support for 10.5(I'm guessin...

Auto Crop on 0.9.5 a i386 always at zero
I've decided to use my older iMac, first Intel Core Duo to free up time for my MBP when traveling. It will be slow as molasses to encode. Still I figure I can let it run for a few days while gone to do a couple of files. I noticed that auto crop doesn't work anymore. I've tried clearing all presets,...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
Oh. I've always thought that loose anamorphic would be the ideal choice if you play your movies on several different sized screens. For instance I have ATV on three different sized HD Screens, iPad 2 and iPhone 4s. So strict anamorphic will be fine for this? Thanks. Here is what I found on the guide...

In regards to Anamorphic, take a look at the HB guide with Anamorphic enabled encoding. Makes so much sense after this.

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
So, I encoded a couple of files using "High" today. The results look beautiful, but the files are HUGE! I was fooling with "dodgeball", starting with a BD rip. "High" left alone made a 9.88 gb file "High" with "large file size" unchecked made a 8.55...

Re: Apple TV 3 and Blu-Ray 1080p - Best Encode
no i basically bumped it up to 16. i know i'll probably get a lot of 'you're an idiot' or 'there's no point' but for the handful of movies i absolutely adore, a few extra gigs won't hurt in my terabytes of storage. but i honestly don't see a difference showing with the 18 or 20, except maybe if you...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***
I probably won't have time to test this out for several days, but I wouldn't be surprised if High Profile 1080p will also *now* work with the ATV2 running the latest version of the OS. I already had success playing full-bitrate Blu-ray rips on the ATV2 via XBMC, but the stock OS/player stuttered. S...

Re: Apple TV 3 and Blu-Ray 1080p - Best Encode
Ok so the Handbrake team posted a sticky, and answered my question! This is awesome, what a difference it makes doing it either the Normal or High Profile way rather than choosing Apple TV 2 and bumping up size to 1080. Here is the link: https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=23648 My e...

Re: AppleTV 2.3 update breaks AC3 5.1playback?
Yep - just done a quick test and created 2 files, one with AC3 only and one with both AAC & AC3. The AC3 only movie had no sound, the one with both tracks played the DD5.1 track. Glad i did all mine with the preset defaults for audio. Thanks for checking. I think I'll skip this update. I have t...

Re: AppleTV 2.3 update breaks AC3 5.1playback?
Confirmed problem no 5.1 via HDMI or Optical however I do get 5.1 on the Apple start up screen. In my case my own files only have AC3 soundtracks and when I play back I get no sound in 2.3 in 2.2 I get 5.1. All created in Handbrake 9.2 on the Mac I'll try one with AC3 and AAC and see.... I bet your...

Re: AppleTV 2.3 update breaks AC3 5.1playback?
Can you try one with just AC3 track and no AAC? I hope ATV isn't looking for AAC track in order for it to allow AC3 passthrough.wrkngclsshro wrote:I did both encodes. Both meaning AC3 plus AAC.

I haven't updated yet, but are your HB encodes only DD audio AC3 or did you also include AAC, as the default AppleTV preset?

Re: I seem to have misplaced 16 GB of space.
Don't know if this was your case but I once used a public beta of a mac program that must have been buggy because it started eating my hard disk space until it ran out although a reboot of the computer fixed it (the space kept disappearing even though I had quit the program). It created some huge t...

You gotta love OS X. This morning all the space came back on its own. Now the HD Get Info size and Disk Utility size matches up with Omnidisksweeper and WhatSize totals.

Re: I seem to have misplaced 16 GB of space.
Yes. DU checks out fine, even did a safe boot to force the utility to run on boot. Oh well, I'll just have to off load some file to gain some space a bit and re-install 10.5 if the OS doesn't clear up on its own. I say that since my last post the drive just gained 2 gb of free space on its own. :-)
