Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)

What's the (visual, file size, etc) difference between option "bframes=6" and "bframes=3:b-adapt=2"? I am using "bframes=6" since 0.92 but my encodes finished pretty large (~2G on average, CRF 68%) so I will redo my library with 0.93 (CRF 60%); a few encodes show some >...

Re: No Picture on AppleTV

Same problem here. All of my PAL movies or TV shows encoded with HB 0.9.2 do not play on aTV 2.2. Had to manually downgrade to 2.1 to restore functionality to my aTV. In my case aTV only shows black screen and it is possible to get back to menu if I only press "Menu" button. If I fiddle wi...

Re: Audio settings for AppleTV?

Without an activity log, there is no way to know. If it would matter to me I would report an error with complete log. But since encode was fine, both audio tracks were present (one AAC and other AC3) as seen in Gspot and I only tried one encode with double audio tracks and I only encode for my appl...

Re: Audio settings for AppleTV?

I tried AAC+AC3 encode once but my AppleTV only played AAC track and there was no way of telling it to switch to AC3 (I can see double DD symbol light on my receiver for AC3 sound). So I ended up encoding only AC3 into my DVD rips. I am wondering what went wrong with my AAC+AC3 encodes? I used Apple...

Shame on me!
I suggest you add this topic to all forums (especially to development), since I didn't look here when posting my request.

Re: AppleTV and your movie collection

The fact is this: By default you see your entire library on appleTV. There is no (visible) distinction between synced and streaming content. You can "disable" streaming content by means of a checkmark in iTunes. That way you only see what is synced to your aTV (same happens when you shutdo...

Re: AppleTV and your movie collection

Hi, Brian. Scrolling 180+ movies is a snap. As GadgetDon pointed out the longer you hold the button the faster is scrolls. I am grouping toons as TV shows since it would be a mess otherwise. I was also thinking on grouping movies like Harry Potter, Aliens, Starwars, ... into TV shows but bot decided...

cannot load CRF preset

I think I found a bug in Windows GUI but I'm not sure. When I try to select "constant quality rate" preset (or even my own saved preset) I get an error message and preset is not loaded. I played with preset and found out that the problem lies in "-q 0.68". If I change this to &qu...

I'm just trying to say that "bframes=3:ref=3" is better suited for general encoding (not source sepecific).
So this should be used in preference since "bframes=6:ref=6" causes too much strain on aTV on some movies.
Just my 2c.

Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

See Rule #3 in first post. I thaught that this topic is for finding *the best* quality settings for normal playback regardless of movie/source ... Well, nevermind, I found out that reducing "bframes=6:ref=6" to "bframes=3:ref=3" fixes the problem. Quality stays awesome and playb...

Re: AppleTV and your movie collection

Well, I have now aprox. 180 movies (some 20 more to transcode), and aprox. 200 toons (mostly TV rips I riped myself, some DVD rips). Also have 6 series: The Blue Planet, Planet Eart, Walking w/ Dinosaurs and Walking w/ Beasts, Allo! Allo! (not yet all seasons) and Firefly (DVD rips). I only sync [G]...

Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

OK, I think we have a winner...(or at least better) CRF 68% - bframes=6:ref=6:mixed-refs=1:subq=6:me=umh:no-fast-pskip=1:trellis=1:brdo=1:direct=auto:bime=1:merange=24:vbv-maxrate=4900:vbv-bufsize=3000 Hi there! Re: A simple thanks

I am joining kevinbal to thank *all* of you that take care of HandBrake. This is one great piece of software and without it I would be stuck with mostly useles appleTV (since iTunes store is not available in my country).

Thanks again!

iTunes won't recognise MP4 made with appleTV preset with AC3

Yesterday I was very delighted to see AC3 support for appleTV. So I immediatelly encoded one of my DVDs with HB 0.9.2 with new preset. Unfortunatelly iTunes won't recognise this new MP4 file (though gspot shows all tracks and media player classic and VLC play it ok). I tried this on Windows machine ...

Re: Apple TV doesn't recognize the Chapter Markers.

I had similar problem with Media Player Classic not showing chapters but the appleTV was able to show (use) them. iTunes also showed chapter marks. I used appleTV preset and encoded files to .mp4 I also changed to 2 pass encoding wit 2000 kbps. Audio was 96kbps downmixed to DPLII, with subtitles har...

missing chapter marks in MP4

I have succesfully encoded more than 80 of my DVDs into AppleTV compatible MP4 (AVC/AAC) using Hanbrake since December. Then since two days ago (Jan 22nd) all new encodes come out without chapter markers. I didn't change anything in HB. The checkmark "Use Chapter Markers for MP4" is set in...
