You really need to give some more indication of what the problem is. Go through the process you're using step by step and provide a detailed run down of where the issue is.

Indeed I was experimenting with this last night and found that a setting of 74% gave a video that was 6000kbps (admittedly this will vary heavily depending on the source material so it might be needed sometimes)! Around 70% should be sufficient in most cases.

You need to use a seperate program to rip the DVD data onto your hard drive before you start using handbrake. If you're on a PC best program is probably DVDshrink or DVDdecryptor. If you're on a mac you want to use mactheripper. All those can be found by googling their names.

Hope that helps.

You can do a simple calculation to work out the bitrate required for a specific target size. Let length of the movie (in seconds) be x Let your required bitrate (in kbps) be y Let your target size (in MB) be z z = x*((y/8)/1000) y = ((z*8)*1000)/x So supposing you wanted your movie to be 2GB or 2000...

Well I have to sty I'm stumped as to why the quality drop should be happening in both releases of HB when before it was fine. The only thing I can suggest is to try x264 video and mp3 audio and see if that makes a difference. This also means that if you do manage to get the leatest svn you can use t...

Have you tested this with a .mp4 file and a .avi file. Do both not play? Thing is a video file is two bits; the container which is like a box in which lots of different codecs, the codec being the other 'bit' of the video file can be put. There are various containers that handbrake can output to suc...

1) What program(s) are you using to playback these files? Is the quality drop uniform across all of them? 2) Can you define quality drop a bit more accurately? Have you got a pre-drop and post-drop screenshot of the same video to compare things? If so post them here for people to compare and try to ...

That's certainly worth a try, hope it works for you. Your other question - .avi sounds simplest if you want to keep this within handbrake as it's the format that can be played by your program and handbrake can output, although as you mentioned there are other shareware programs that can do a convers...

Sorry that was my mistake I didn't read your message properly. Video files come in two bits, there's the container (.avi, .mp4) and the codec. (There's actually two codecs, one for the video and for the audio) Containers can have a number of different codecs within them and combinations of same (eg ...

Well first thing to do is to figure out whether your machine can burn DVDs. This depends on whether it has a superdrive (it can) or a combodrive (it cannot). If you don't know click on the apple symbol in the top-left of the screen then about this mac>more info and then disc burning under the hardwa...

I thought that it might be the case they would use a DVD player, seemed odd you would to reburn a video enocoded through handbrake. I mentioned this in my first post but it probably wasn't that clear - you don't need handbrake to reburn content from a DVD. Just use toast. It's a Roxio product and yo...

so what is the guy with the projector going to use to playback the video? If it's quicktime the best thing to do is to rip with x264 as the encoder (under the drop down encoder menu and a bitrate of 2000 or so). By default that should produce a pretty good facismile of the original.

Crop an extra line (2 pixels) away with the custom cropping tool in the picture settings section and see if that makes a difference.

Have you tried ripping the DVD in an .avi format rather than a .mp4? Use the drop down box by file format to change it. According to that list it should work.

The differing results with ffmpeg video are likely due to how the encoder responds to the poor mastering on a problem disc rather than the encoder itself. Obviously you can phrase it as a 'problem' with either but given the feedback from the devs it seems that the x264 encoder is simply making the b...

So you want to play the video (which is you ripped from a DVD) through the computer to a projector? If so and you're not worried about hard drive space use the built in DVD app in OS X. Just open it go to file>open DVD media and then navigate to the video-ts folder within the folder you got from the...

If it is a codec problem try backing everything in those folders up, deleting them and installing perian which bundles a lot of that functionality together then putting them back in (if there's something that you need to play and perian can't handle it)

Hang on a sec. If you want to reburn it onto a DVD you don't need handbrake at all, just a ripper like MTR (or something like DVD shrink/DVD decryptor if you're on Windows) and burning software such as nero or toast etc. What are you aiming to do at the end of your workflow (ie what is the 'finished...

Nooooo don't select the highest framerate. The framerate is not a 'bigger = better' quality. Just leave it as 'same as source' if you want copies of a DVD rip.
