I've noticed that since upgrading to 1.4.2 and Monterey, videotoolbox is indeed incredibly Slow. For the past year I was using the 1.4.0 beta (universal binary) and encoding with the M1 macbook air in Videotoolbox was incredibly quick (300-500 fps). Using the same profile, now it's less than 80 fps....
