Re: VSDC and Subtitles

VSDC won't add ass subtitles., but the number of things it will do is amazing.

Re: VSDC and Subtitles

I was looking for a program that could increase the volume of an audio track when I found VSDC, a free program that was able to do just that, in the number of db that I wished. I worked perfectly, with a million settings for audio and video editing. Take a look!

VSDC and Subtitles

Description of problem or question: Can ass subtitles be added to video files in VSDC? When I try to add ass files to video in VSDC I only have the choice to add srt files: ass files are otherwise easily added in MKVTools, but VSDC has a million other editing feature that I like. Steps to reproduce...

Re: Why Handbrake?

mkvtoolkit is even better than I thought. I have a number of mp4 with muxed subtitles - mkvtoolkit simply adds an external ssa subtitle file and outputs an MKV file with a muxed ssa subtitle. It's a simple way to get all my mp4 to mkv for plex.

Re: Why Handbrake?

After several hours of trying to get xmedirecode working, I gave up, and tried several other programs, which, while they worked were not very simple or fast. I then decided to reinstall mkvtoolnix, and have found that it works perfectly, once you understand the interface. I now can easily add my ext...

Re: Why Handbrake?

Thanks. What I'm looking for is an easy and FAST way, given an MKV file and an SSA subtitle file, to mux the subtitles, that is, to give the viewer the choice of playback with and without the subtitles.
I'm not sure if Avidemux softcodes the subtitles.

Re: Why Handbrake?

Again, thanks for all your input, though I would like some help as to why Xmediarecode does not respond. My PC is an i7 with 8gbs and runs just about everything. If you review the steps I've outlined above - am I doing anyhing wrong?

Re: Why Handbrake?

Xmediarecode looks good but all I get is (not responding). I think I'm using it properly: 1. open an mkv file 2. choose video and set to copy 3. choose audio and set to copy 4 choose subtitle, import the ssa file, highlight it and use the small arrow to move it to the right 5. Add to Queue and encod...

Re: Why Handbrake?

Thanks for the info. It seems that the program works for MKV, but wouldn't I still need Handbrake for MP4,to mux and add subtitles?

Why Handbrake?

Description of problem or question: Many movie files I have are already in the MKV format, with a variety of muxed subtitles. I usually open these MKV files in SubtitleEdit, where I can choose my own font, size and color, saving this file in an ssa format. At that point I was using Handbrake to mux...

Re: Subs and Presets

I've just compared the two versions on my TV and there is not a huge difference. When I make a DVD for a friend, using AVStoDVD, from here on in I'll use the HQ version. I've also changed the display type on ROKU from autodetect to 1080p. I wish there weren't so many settings!

Thanks

Re: Subs and Presets

I'm coding the same video with two different presets, the fast 1080 and the HQ1080, in the hope I will see some difference when they are served by Plex. One difference already is the time for the encoding, 2 -3times longer in HQ. I'll let you know what happens.

Re: Subs and Presets

Given the choice of downloading the same video in different formats, what's the best choice for best quality? Should I choose file size? And after the subtitle is set to ssa, what shall I choose in Handbrake as a preset?

Subs and Presets

When I'm adding subtitles to a video I usually use the ssa format. I set Handbrake to the MKV mode and use the preset Fast 1080p30. I use a Plex server to cast the file to a flat screen TV via a Roku app. What would be the best preset to use, Roku 1080p30 surround, or Matroska H264 or H265 or the st...

Curiosity

Description of problem or question: I would like to hear from users what they basically use Handbrake for. I'm thinking that it may suggest to others new kinds of usages. I myself was using Handbrake to add ssa sub titles to mp4 or mkv files (usually) to produce muxed output for use in Plex. This h...

Re: Size subtitles

I have somewhat the same question. What I do is to open the srt files in SubtitleEdit, and then go to options, and then to SSA, where you can set the size and color you wish, and then save the file as an SSA. This becomes the subtitle import for Handbrake. It works pretty well for me.
