Re: Which settings fix interlacing?
Postby xichael on Sat Sep 06, 2008 10:41 pm My point is, if you've bothered to read the thread, and then decided to go through trouble of replying, why not be as helpful as you can? I'm not asking anyone to spoonfeed me, nor am I making any demands, I'm just calling on those who would like to share ...

Re: Ps3 ...Screen always black
I have an xbox 360, but oftentimes I just use the ps3 preset with some options manipulation. Once in awhile I, too, get the black screen on playback. No video. No sound. I don't know what's going on. Hmm....

Re: xbox 360- black screen
update:
I installed ffdsow. The video now plays in Media Player Classic. It stutters, though. Doesn't play in the xbox. I guess it was a bad encode.

Re: xbox 360- black screen
Thanks for moving into the proper section.....I think.
So is this problem too tough for you all?
By the way, Media Player Classic uses quite a bit of cpu power TRYING to play the video. Another clue, perhaps?
Come on, jbrjake, you're always helping me out. Where you at?

xbox 360- black screen
Wow, it seems like I'm always coming here with some kind of problem  . Well, this time it's a "black screen" I get. Sorry, I have no handbrake log. And sorry if this post is a bit long. Oh yea, and sorry if the whole xbox 360 thing gets a bit tedious for some. Anyway, I posted THIS up...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
Jbrjake, when I look more at the Fairuse encode (enlarging the player window), I see that this ALSO has those lines. It's unnoticeable on an sdtv, but on hdtv, it might not look so hot. So, it must be the dvd itself. I guess it's not necessary to post any shots. Handbrake was doing its job. Thanks f...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
Alright, I can do that. If....you are indeed interested. I'll have to encode a chapter again using the settings you recommended. Then I'll have to upload a screen shot. How would I go about uploading or posting screen shots on here?

Re: Containers and Xbox360
The 360 will only accept stereo for aac. I always encode (well, usually) h264/aac within an mp4 container. I only get stereo sound, but that's fine for me. All my encodes work, except for the occasional one that has me perplexed. Just use the presets and all will go well. You can manipluate the enco...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
I tried as you suggested, jbrjak. Same result and with lines running throughout. Lines sort of like streaky-like lines that run through the faces, clothes, etc. Not looking too good. I'm not gonna worry about it. I was just curious as to why Handbrake has a tough time sometimes. By the way, the Fair...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
[21:07:05] + Deblock (pp7) (default settings) Deblocking can easily lead to results like that. Doing image filtering like deblocking or denoising or deinterlacing *always* degrades picture quality to some extent. They add extra processing cruft and throw away detail, so they should only be used whe...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
Wow, you really do love those logs, don't you? :) Well, I don't know what' going on with Handbrake, but there is absolutely no doubt that Fairuse produced much better quality. Here is a bunch of mumble-jumble that the activity window left behind. Can you make any sense of it? [21:07:01] hb_init: che...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
Back one more time. I encoded the same chapter using Fairuse Wizard. Same Framerate using Deinterlacing. Now, I'm not trying to compare the two programs. This is for experimental sake only and to possibly help people out in the future. Well, the Fairuse encode looks WAY better. So should I assume th...

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
Well, I tried an encode (one chapter) assuming the original framerate. Still jagged. Hmmm.... I guess this movie is just facked.

Re: Sighhh... Interlaced, Telecine
Hello. I'm also having a problem with (what I THINK is) interlaced material. But I'm a little confused. The movie is "Wicker Park". I have used various xbox 360 encoding options (h264). My first encode didn't use any Deinterlacing. I then tried Deinterlacing using both Fast and Slowest. I ...

Re: Some h264 movies won't play back
Thank you, jbrjake. I didn't provide a LOG the first time because Handbrake doesn't generate one. Is there an option in the GUI somewhere? Maybe I'm blind. So what I did was copy and paste from the CLI window before it closed itself. So with problem DVDs I guess I can always try VFR, or continue enc...

Re: Some h264 movies won't play back
Wow, exactly as expected. I encoded the movie with NO audio this time. And guess what ? It plays just fine. So, I solved (kinda) the problem with this particular dvd. So....when a dvd might be giving you trouble- audio?- (as was with my case), just encode without audio, then mux in an audio track af...

Re: Some h264 movies won't play back

Re: Some h264 movies won't play back
How is this a "misleading title"? what's SO misleading about it? I'll tell ya: nothing. How can it be a problem with my playback system? The file won't play on my computer using Media Player Classic OR on my xbox 360. The same happens when I try to play the file on another computer. So I h...

Re: 'The Notebook' HELP!
Hmmm.
I had already unlocked the dvd previously using "dvdshrink". I then converted to h264 with no problems at all. Maybe you should try using "anydvd".

Some h264 movies won't play back
Maybe somebody can throw me some feedback here? I'm converted "Jackass", the movie using both XVID and H264. The XVID movie plays fine (quality isn't so hot, even at 1500 Kbps...but that's another story). But.....the H264 one for SOME reason just doesn't want to play back using Media Playe...

I like the program so much that.......
I would LOVE to have it be able to convert other video formats, as well. Yea, I'm sure this topic has been brought up before. And I've even used other programs to convert to x264 with less than desirable results. Any ideas to convert xvid to h264, other than using megui, xivd4psp or ripbox264? Or ma...
