Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

Audio is, as you have seen, its own can of worms. I generally do a passthrough of AC3 and a conversion to AAC (in that order) for the audio track on a DVD. It gets far more complicated when Bluray enters the equation, but I still use AC3 and AAC as the first tracks for player compatibility. I think...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

The frame rate of the MKV file is exactly 25, as from the DVD. But the frame rate of the M4V / MP4 from HandBrakeCLI is 24.964370, as seen by VLC. This seems to be NTSC, not PAL. So there seem to be a bug in the HQ preset? Actually, the 24.964370 is appropriate for PAL; for NTSC, it would be 29.97 ...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

OK. It seems that the documentation is totally missing or simply wrong. I tried: --audio-lang-list deu,eng ^ --first-audio ^ -6 stereo ^ -B 160 ^ And this resulted in 3 audio tracks: 1: german, down to 160 kbps, not sure, but 32 bit?!? 2: german, surround sound with 448 kbps, 16 bit 3: english, down...

Last try looks better, even as i am not sure that i need to preserve the 5.1 surround sound: "c:\Program Files/Handbrake/HandBrakeCLI.exe" ^ -i %~n1.mkv ^ -o %~n1.m4v ^ -A %~n1 ^ -c 1 ^ rem video codec ^ -Z "General/Super HQ 576p25 Surround" ^ -m ^ -e x264 ^ -f av_mp4 ^ -O ^ rem ...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

I added a manual -r 25 and --vfr But there are more problems. The MKV contains a german and an english stream. I cannot get this to copy with HandBrakeCLI at all. There are always 2 german streams (one stereo, one surround), no english stream. I tried serveral variants, including trying to copy the ...

OK, that went wrong.

The subtitles were burned into the video.

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

As you mentioned the quality setting.... This is my greated concern. At best i want the FULL quality of the DVD, of course. Just in smaller files because of a better codec. PAL is alread small and old and bad enough, right? I am sorry to ask such many question, but the "help" output from t...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

I tried to rip again, this time with "None" as preferred language and this seems to do the trick!

So now, i am going to delete all of my DVDshrink folders and rip all 11 * 3 = 33 DVDs again :-O

Thanks for that hint about MakeMKV and the command line!

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

May i add a question about MakeMKV? I set the "preferred language" and this resulted in only one audio track and only one subtitle track. At least i assume that this was the reason for that result. I would like to get any and all audio tracks from the DVDs and at least some of the subtitle...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

Many thanks, @Woodstock I am going to check MakeMKV. I have the M.A.S.H. series already ripped with "DVDShrink" if you this from old. But this left me with VIDEO_TS folders which is less usable. So I thought about ripping again, and directly with the best current Codec. I did not know that...

Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

Description of problem or question: I am trying to convert lots of my DVDs to h.265 with a VBR of 3000, getting all available audio tracks and a selection of subtitles. The DVDs, for example the M.A.S.H. series contain multiple episodes as tracks on each DVD. My goal is to enter a DVD, press "...
