Re: Huge output file for black/white movie
Now adding a thanks for the tip for using NLMeans, with which I have considerably shrunk a lot of old visually noisy movies, B/W and color, and it sometimes even looks a bit clearer instead of muddier, as I would expect from low pass filtering. But a question, too : Is there a good way to reduce ver...

Re: Huge output file for black/white movie
Ok with medium denoise, grayscale and 720p I got it to 1,8 GB which seems reasonable and it looks ok (it would get ~ 1 GB more with 1080p and otherwise similar settings, I ditched that one)
Thanks!
Thanks!

Huge output file for black/white movie
Description of problem or question: I ripped an old black/white movie from a Bluray disc, converted down to 720p. Audio was set to convert to AAC 192kbps. The movie is 1h 27min long, the output file is almost 6 GB, which seems excessive at that resolution, like ~ factor 4...6x excessive. (The sourc...

Re: Less common reasons for "No valid source or titles found"
ok, makemkv doesn't seem to like both those DVD either. It gives messages about that BUP offset for VTS vs. IFO header issue, and mentions that some short tracks get skipped. And then it says, after some messages about the device being busy (perhaps no exact translation), that opening the disk fails...

Re: Less common reasons for "No valid source or titles found"
I quickly tried the current MakeMKV beta. It doesn't like the copied folder either, says something about "BUP offset does not match IFO header", titleset start sector wrong, etc (can't give exact messages in English as this uses the syste language...) I'll try with the Disc again. Funny ho...

Less common reasons for "No valid source or titles found"
Description of problem or question: I'm not posting this under specific OS support forum, as the result I get with those 2 DVDs are the same on different computers with different OSes and different versions of Handbrake, different versions of "libdvdcss-2.dll" (including the newest). The ...

Re: How to make subtitles? (e.g. for another language)
Thanks, I found a free Java based tool "Jubler" for manually making subtitles, and it supports the .ass files, so I'll be using that then. https://www.jubler.org/screenshots.html I have found a potential free way of audio to text conversion, but it's still some work, so ATM I'll forego it....

How to make subtitles? (e.g. for another language)
Description of problem or question: Given you have a e.g. mp4 or mkv file with video/audio, but no available subtitles within the video itself: What are good ways to make subtitles that ultimately end up either in the container file, or baked-in? So for baking-in subtitles that are in the source ma...

Re: "Video Pass thru" ?
Ok guys, so my hipshot guess about a probable rough architecture for this was wrong, got me there ;) Thanks for explaining. I've only done audio stuff before, not video. Just out of curiosity, could you describe a bit the nature of complex gotchas w.r.t. pass-thru? Not asking for lengthy explanation...

Re: "Video Pass thru" ?
Thanks, I assumed "auto passthrough" just means "leave it the heck alone, whatever there is" and it seemed logical for something like that to be available always - after all, what can be difficult about just copying 1:1. Thanks for the hint about MKVtoolnix, I'll look into it, al...

"Video Pass thru" ?
Description of problem or question: Similar to being able to select* "audio pass through", which I frequently use for sources with HQ audio that shall not be mangled, I was wondering, is there also a way to pass thru the video and just do something to the audio? I have some material where...

Re: "No valid titles found" after log says "6 valid titles found" / json pack failure: NULL object
Guys, you may be right. I looked at this closer... and the border region from the printed on stuff to the part where there is no print, e.g. at the very top, very slightly right of the image, there is some white...adhesive?? oozing out, and the graphics seem unusually coarse: https://i.ibb.co/bgcJVF...

Re: "No valid titles found" after log says "6 valid titles found" / json pack failure: NULL object
It's a commercial one. The underside, with an inscription of a media company on the innermost ring, seems to indicate it, even though I forgot what a burned one looks like. (just to indicate I wasn't sold a fake, which could have been a possibility)

Re: "No valid titles found" after log says "6 valid titles found" / json pack failure: NULL object
Tried MakeMKV. i got the log down below. Weird: not seen but heard: maybe 15 seconds before it gave up, the program seemed to open and close again the drive bay, at least that's what it sounded like. Hm. maybe the DVD really has problems. I have not watched it in full, only skimped. But it looks fin...

"No valid titles found" after log says "6 valid titles found" / json pack failure: NULL object
Description of problem or question: I attempted to scan a certain DVD. I do not know whether it has copy protection - old opera performance DVDs often do not have this, but sometimes do - but in any case, libdvdcss2 is in the installation folder and this installation has worked for ~ 60 DVDs of thi...
