Re: Tips Using HandBrake to Convert MOV to H265?

Question: For Average and Max Bitrate from your experience what number for each would you suggest to ensure No loss of quality? We can all give you some numbers to use, but it won't help you. A "high quality" video can be anything. Some people believe you can compress a 4K video 90% to 1m...

We don't need or want an image of MediaInfo. Re: Video lags audio by 1.5 seconds

You'd need to find out whether the delay is a software or file based. What I mean by that is that the audio file itself could have a 1,5 second empty signal at the beginning, thus the whole track is 1,5 second ahead, or it could be the MKV that is set to start the audio stream 1,5 seconds sooner. Pl...

Re: Is there room for Handbrake to speed up x265 encoding ?

The software should already be using 100% CPU, so no.

If you want to use both hardware and software, you'd need to use several video encoding software - one that uses your GPU and one that uses the CPU.
Quality would be different and it doesn't sound like that's what you want.

Limited yeah, but seems to have far more player support. And most players support changing subtitle size, if the stream is .srt.

Also I would guess the player has to support the font provided in the SSA stream anyway as a system font?

Re: Tips Using HandBrake to Convert MOV to H265?

Look at containers like MOV, MKV, MP4, AVi etc. as a kind of .zip file that contains other files (streams), e.g. ac3 h.264, h.265, aac, .srt, .mp3 audio, video and subtitle files. Before even considering re-encoding the file, you should check what the MOV file contains. If it already contains a h.26...

Re: Video lags audio by 1.5 seconds

MKV is a wrapper, whose contained formats may or may not support audio delay. I don't know what audio formats that should be. You can put a delay on any audio, AFAIC tell with MKVToolNix. The help in MKVToolNix GUI states the same. Just made a test with TrueHD, DTS-HD-MA, AC-3, PCM, FLAC, MP2, AAC ...

Re: Video lags audio by 1.5 seconds

Question: Why would you want to re-encode the file twice? If you just want to change from .mkv to .mp4, you can just remux the file. Demux (extract) audio, video and subtitle streams from the MKV and remux (repack) into MP4. MKV files supports audio delay, MP4 doesn't. So there could be set an audio...

Re: HandBrake CPU affinity resets after each video

You can make a custom shortcut to start up HB, allowing it to use only specific cores and threads. The link looks like this: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "Handbrake" /High /Affinity 55 "C:\Program Files\HandBrake\HandBrake.exe" The number after /affinity (55) decides whic...

Re: Automatic convertion of subtitles

Seems it's a default behavior that can't be changed. But you can always remux the file with "MKVToolNix GUI" and the subtitle from the old file. At least until someone may come with a better solution.

You can always try to search on the movie titles on webpages like https://subscene.com/ Your subs might be there in .srt format. It's basically people that have already done the OCR job Woodstock mentioned, and saved the files in SRT format. Just be aware that not all files will have the right timin...

Demux the audio file from the MKV with MKVToolnix and MKVCleaver (MKVToolnix only needs to be installed). Demux = extract audio/video/subtitle stream(s). Recode the audio file with any valid software, like eac3to (https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Eac3to/How_to_Use) remux the file with MKVToolnix GUI. Y...

I always keeps my .srt files externally from the video file, in the same folder. Then you have no issues. If the name of the video file is "My Video File.mp4" ... name the .srt file "My Video File.en.srt" for English sub "My Video File.fr.srt" for French sub etc. https:...

What encoder level are you using on the [Video] tab of HB? If it's an older TV, it might not go higher than level 5.0 MAIN or similar. In the TV's manual, you can see what level it goes to with different formats. Force it to a level that the TV supports. Could also be that the TV doesn't support the...
