Re: H.266 support
Maybe becaues of "Encoding complexity of several times (up to ten times) that of HEVC is expected, depending on the quality of the encoding algorithm (which is outside the scope of the standard). The decoding complexity is about twice that of HEVC"

Re: 4k disc degrading
Ripping does not, transcoding (which Handbrake does, because it's a transcoder, not a dedicated ripper) does.

version 1.6.1 and 1.7.0 also contained virusses I dare to say, no they didn't. Even the most recent 1.7.2 shows one entry on Virustotal. For some strange malware scanner named Jiangmin. If not at least a few of the "big" ones (e.g. Avast, Kaspersky, McAffee, Microsoft, etc.) show anything...

Re: Ultraslow because of Filter?
Thank you for the suggesion. Would you recommend Preset Default or Bob? Running a decode for about a minute, Default is at average 16fps (still MUCH faster than EEDI), Bob goes about 9.6fps, so for now I would take Default, so I can finish the 49 episodes in a timely way. If encoding a DVD movie, EE...

Ultraslow because of Filter?
Description of problem or question: Got myself The King of Queens on BluRay as a present. For some reason 49 of 207 episodes are interlaced (starting with Season 2 Episode 2 up to Season 3 Episode 25). Example When I use my "normal" settings (RF20, Preset Slow) one of the progressive epis...

Re: Confused by Video RF value
Best quality would be to not transcode any source video.
I think, if you increase the RF, then some details can go missing, which can be helpful at grainy sources, if the image becomes more "clear" and thus would be better compressible.

Best video quality is easy to achieve: Don't transcode.

Besides, if you use it in Adobe Premiere anyway, maybe for reencode, why reencode it with Handbrake first?

Depending on how much of your CPU is used, you could use multiple encodings (Advanvced Settings) so your CPU is used to the fullest.

I hope you did not had Passkey running while you were using MakeMKV. You should run only one of them at the same time. (Though MakeMKV will warn about any On the Fly decoders if that was the case). Besides, you can make an encrypted Backup with MakeMKV (noticeable by the discatt.dat file in the main...

Re: I have a dual Xeon setup with 28 cores in total. How do I use all the cores (that is 100% CPU usage) to encode 1 vid
That depends on the resolution of the video, the quality settings chosen, if you have any filters active... but I think, even then some encoders just cannot work with this many threads.
If you ever have multiple encodings, then best option would be, to run multiple encodes at once.

I don't think you need a keyframe at the end if you want to cut a video. You only need them at the beginning of the cut, not at the end.

Re: Need help for converting 3gp video format
I would think, encoding such videos only can make it worse.
I assume you cannot play the 3gp files natively? If it would be my video, I probably would have just re-encapsulated it in a MKV container, as the video and audio format should be playable on a computer.

I'm not sure if touch exists on Mac, but I know it has parameters to just copy dates over from source to destination. In Handbrake Preferences, at "When done" one can set up a "Send file to" with arguments. I suppose one could place touch in there with arguments.

my settings always place the destination file in the same directory where the source file comes from. Is the source on a local drive, the destination is placed on the local drive, if the source is on a network drive, the destination is placed on the network drive. Thus I would say, you are disproven...

Isn't a VCD/SVCD just an MPEG/MPEG2-Stream? Opening the DAT file directly might work eventually.
