If encoding with the hardware works, then this should be a small flaw for you in the current version.

Re: 1.8.0: Crash when creating "Source preview"

Hardware decoding is turned on by default, just saying. The driver is final, there won't be any updates. Are you sure? E.g. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/776137/intel-7th-10th-gen-processor-graphics-windows.html lists version 31.0.101.2127 Though I am not sure, if this is applica...

Re: Sudden update in Handbrake

Hmm out of curiousity I updated from 1.7.3 to 1.7.2. During that 1.7.2 was uninstalled and 1.7.3 installed. But all my preset stayed the same. I'm also not sure that Handbrake updates itself without user interaction at all. Handbrake saves presets at AppData\Roaming\HandBrake, which should be unaffe...

Re: reads DVD. says No Valid Source or Titles Found

Handbrake is not a ripper software. Use e.g. MakeMKV to rip the video titles to MKV files and transcode them with Handbrake afterwards.

Maybe becaues of "Encoding complexity of several times (up to ten times) that of HEVC is expected, depending on the quality of the encoding algorithm (which is outside the scope of the standard). The decoding complexity is about twice that of HEVC"

Ripping does not, transcoding (which Handbrake does, because it's a transcoder, not a dedicated ripper) does.

version 1.6.1 and 1.7.0 also contained virusses I dare to say, no they didn't. Even the most recent 1.7.2 shows one entry on Virustotal. For some strange malware scanner named Jiangmin. If not at least a few of the "big" ones (e.g. Avast, Kaspersky, McAffee, Microsoft, etc.) show anything...

Re: Ultraslow because of Filter?

Thank you for the suggesion. Would you recommend Preset Default or Bob? Running a decode for about a minute, Default is at average 16fps (still MUCH faster than EEDI), Bob goes about 9.6fps, so for now I would take Default, so I can finish the 49 episodes in a timely way. If encoding a DVD movie, EE...

Re: Confused by Video RF value

Best quality would be to not transcode any source video.

I think, if you increase the RF, then some details can go missing, which can be helpful at grainy sources, if the image becomes more "clear" and thus would be better compressible.

Depending on how much of your CPU is used, you could use multiple encodings (Advanvced Settings) so your CPU is used to the fullest.

I hope you did not had Passkey running while you were using MakeMKV. You should run only one of them at the same time. (Though MakeMKV will warn about any On the Fly decoders if that was the case). Besides, you can make an encrypted Backup with MakeMKV (noticeable by the discatt.dat file in the main...

Re: I have a dual Xeon setup with 28 cores in total. How do I use all the cores (that is 100% CPU usage) to encode 1 vid

That depends on the resolution of the video, the quality settings chosen, if you have any filters active... but I think, even then some encoders just cannot work with this many threads.

If you ever have multiple encodings, then best option would be, to run multiple encodes at once.
