The source of all my encodes are DVDs which were backed-up to HDD. If I'm not mistaken they would be telecined(i.e. 3:2 pull down?). If I encode at 'same as source' constant rate, I get 30 fps(ffmpeg reports 'over 10,000 duplicate frames). But if I use a variable frame rate, it drops to about 24 fps...

The source files are the same; I changed the filenames and edited the logs for clarity. I ran back-to-back encodes with just the video stream; no audio, subtitles, or chapter markers. Identical Encodes Result in Erratic File Sizes

Description of problem or question: Repeated encodes of the same source files results in output files that vary by ~12k-25k. I've disabled the VBV in the advanced video tab, as well as set/unset the 'non-deterministic' parameter. I've tested on different source files, machines, presets, GUI, CLI, e...
