Re: x265 slower preset use less CPU?

Ideally I want to use ~100% of available resources to allow Slow-er preset, with an equivalent FPS as 50% resources on Medium preset. That is an idealized expectation, having no physical basis that I am aware of. Even if you were able to contrive such a thing once, it would all be different on the ...

Re: x265 slower preset use less CPU?

The encoders use as many cores as they need for efficiency. A 1080p encode usually maxes out at 10-12 cores on x265, fewer on x264. After that point, adding more cores means nothing, since they'll be ignored... Unless you run another encode at the same time. Filters affect things, too. You have com...

Re: x265 slower preset use less CPU?

More efficient encoding in some cases comes from more dependencies between macroblocks or frames, resulting in less parallelism. Are you chasing after a CPU utilization meter or encoding speed or encoding efficiency? Different solutions for each of the 3. Ideally I want to use ~100% of available re...

x265 slower preset use less CPU?

Description of problem or question: I have a new AMD 3900x which is much better than my old i7-6700k (obvs). When converting 1080p content the 6700k would be CPU limited on the Fast setting, practically 100% CPU load and about 24 frames per second. On the 3900x it uses all 24 cores, but on Medium i...

Re: When to use Deblock on x265?

Thanks for your answer, I set the RF to 19 for my 1080p encodes and that generally gives excellent results, even on the dark scenes, I have 16TB storage so I'm not too worried on file size (a 28GB blu-ray compressed to 7GB is excellent in my book). I never thought of screen calibration, is that poss...

When to use Deblock on x265?

Description of problem or question: When should you use deblock, is it to reduce the typical block-iness in dark scenes. Will setting a higher CRF acheive the same? HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0): 1.3.3 Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creat...

Synology DS Video App on Samsung Smart TV with x265 NVevc, black bar on right side of picture

Description of problem or question: I just got an nVidia RTX 2070 GPU and tried the available NVenc x265 endoding option for some DVD series, the encode is very fast even set on maxumum quality, but on my Ultra HD Samsung Smart TV the output has a significant black bar on the right hand side of the...
