Re: Audio settings when shrinking a blu-ray video file?

Thaks for the reply. I actually tried searchig YouTube, most of which I didn't find too helpful but then not long after posting this I found one where the guy started talking about passthrough and whether he was right or wrong in what he was saying I don't know but it made sense to me so I think I'v...

Audio settings when shrinking a blu-ray video file?

Description of problem or question: I'm just trying to get to grips with the software & run through all the blu-ray rips I have which were done using MakeMKV. I did one file (Mile 22) which was pretty straight forward - it had 1 audio file and 1 subtitle file. No problem. Just now I've come to ...

Re: Wanting to 'future proof' HB files in terms of audio quality/options.

So instead of AAC (avcodec) and AC3 (as the two default options that are auto-loaded under the Audio tab) with Dolby Pro Logic II mixdown, you're saying i should switch these out to AAC passthru and AC3 passthru instead (with [unknown - same or maybe not] mixdown)?

Re: Wanting to 'future proof' HB files in terms of audio quality/options.

What's the difference between passthrough and non? I'm aware that we can get in to the territory of having 'better' audio/image quality but not that you can honestly tell it's better. What i mean by that is i was in a store where they had these 4K TVs. Now i'm sure that what they have playing on the...

Re: Wanting to 'future proof' HB files in terms of audio quality/options.

Thanks. I think i'll leave that then as it's not vital. I did read while waiting on a reply to this that by cropping and taking out those black bars, you can create playback issues on devices. That's a bit of a concern. Anyway - any idea on the other points such as the audio, codecs, mixdowns etc etc?

Re: Wanting to 'future proof' HB files in terms of audio quality/options.

Also one i forgot to ask...

When converting a file it changes the thumbnail on my PC. The left image is from the direct rip from MakeMKV, the right thumbnail is after Handbrake has been used.

How do i get it so that the right thumbnail matches the left?

Wanting to 'future proof' HB files in terms of audio quality/options.

Description of problem or question: Re-directed from the end of my thread here: https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&p=184362#p184362. I've ripped numerous blu-ray discs using MakeMKV. When doing this i never know which audio & subtitle options to select (in MakeMKV) so i basically ...

Re: Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

No problem.

Just a question before i do - do i have to go through a full 5 hour encode to get that log or can i just set it up, it creates the log, i can stop the encode & save myself 5 hours & then just post the log here?

Re: Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

Take the defaults for broad compatibility with your future situation. If you don't know which source audio track you want to listen to, either take the default or try several in a player. So the default would be perfectly fine with a soundbar setup? I wont end up disappointed with a sound that is l...

Re: Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

Ok so i was going to start with a movie and i'm fairly confident on all settings i've selected with the exception of the audio setting. As i can't link the images here so you can see them i'll just put the link here so you can open it: https://i.imgur.com/jwUPnFl.jpg <--- that's basically the defaul...

Re: Better machine for converting video files?

Regards the attempt at bringing the time frame down - i would rather it take time and the quality to be exactly what i want than for it to be compressed in record time and for me to not be pleased with the output. I simply don't have the space for a second desktop so that idea is out the window. If ...

Re: Better machine for converting video files?

Unfortunately, any browser that supports Content Security Policies, wont' render them. We don't allow 3rd party content on the page. Reduces the security / privacy risks. Your Desktop is probably marginally faster than the Laptop. HandBrake is heavily threaded to the extra cores make up for the AMD...

Hmm well that's no good. I took screenshots of the specs from CPU-Z, uploaded to imgur and linked here yet they're not showing for some reason.

Better machine for converting video files?

Compared to others in my family i'm a tech-pro however when i jump on these kind of forums, compared to other users i'd be like your gran asking how to turn this thing on  So on that note i don't really know which of these machines would be better for running Handbrake. I know neither of them a...

Re: Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

Same Woodstock as the MakeMKV forum? For the "5 minute chunk" do you just set it up as normal and then stop it after a certain amount of time has passed? (unless you mean 5 minute real time encoding which may be like 10 seconds of a movie file on my PC). As for watching the MakeMKV rip, of...

Re: Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

I forgot also - One major problem i have is that when i've been ripping the movies from the discs i've basically been ticking everything English in MakeMKV. Sure i only need 1 set of subtitles for example but when it often lists 2, 3 etc sets of English subtitles, i don't have the time to rip and fi...

Re: Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

What sort of machine would i be looking at for a respectable conversion? Obviously i don't mean the fastest thing that money can buy, providing you're a millionaire, but something respectable. My machine is pretty old now and i don't expect it to be anywhere near fast. I built it in 2010 and made a ...

Sweet spot for reducing blu rays for TV playback?

I'm a newbie currently running Handbrake 1.1.2 on a Windows 7 64bit Pro machine. I started creating a digital library of all my movies & at the moment i'm in the process of ripping blu-rays which are obviously taking up a ton of space. I think i'll leave any DVD-rips as they are but some or even...
