Alright, I got it to work. I updated my Ubuntu (was still on 16.04) and was able to then update Handbrake to the newest version, and it works just swell. Thanks a lot for your help everyone!

Okay, on a related note, if I use a nightly build, would it allow me to passthrough VOSUB subtitles from a DVD rip (via MakeMKV) without having them burned in? I want to be able to toggle subtitles on and off, but can't do that without burning one subtitle track in. As on now, I am using Handbrake 1...
