deblocking questions?
is there more than one deblocking filter? Like is the deblocking filter under filters tab different from the one built in to the x264 core? Also what is set when you set the deblocking to 5 in the filter tab? I know when you pick tunes it does stuff like deblock=-1,-1, deblock=1,1 in the extra optio...

Arrow bluray episode settings/encode time questions
I still need to watch a full episode to see how this encode is going to work out, but a side by side made me happy, It looks better cleaner less noise etc, with a big space savings. I went from 5gb to 1.6gb to 2.0gb, This is with the DTSHD track. Settings: anamorphic and cropping auto, decomb defual...

Re: Film grain on bluray, proponents of de-noise, To de-noise or not. Whats your settings?
Use nlmeans with the film tune if you want to denoise out grain. Changing encoder presets won't help. Don't use the encoder preset for film/grain unless you want to preserve film grain. Thanks mduell. So what your saying is using film/grain presets for encode will cause conflict with nlmeans? What ...

Re: HD sound, questions.
I am 33 years old. This is requiring a great deal of thinking, but I am learning so much along this journey. My goal is to have best looking quality of shows I want to see and share with my kids, and to see all these TV series I never got to watch in order etc. My Quality is still being defined. See...

Re: HD sound, questions.
Thats my point. I have not seen them yet, so if they made it better or more true to what the director or story writer was going for I think the updated version maybe better, But that leaves to question are they still alive to say yes that what i was going for.:) you point out the next bluray I will ...

Re: Film grain on bluray, proponents of de-noise, To de-noise or not. Whats your settings?
Oh yes, I know this is a split topic. I thought I was on board with grain after reading about the god father, and what happened to predator. After seeing movies with no grain, then with grain It feels SD not HD. Also ADD/OCD and it bugs the crap out of me. Maybe I can live with it if I could learn w...

HD sound, questions.
So, I love Bluray because of lossless sound. I have some what of a nice 5.1. polk monitor 60 in front, monitor 40s in the back. After reading, learning about transcoding, finding some of my show only have lossless 2.0, learning about how humans perceive loudness of sound as quality, and how handbrak...

Film grain on bluray, proponents of de-noise, To de-noise or not. Whats your settings?
So as I am reviewing my blurays, I am finding a lot of film grain. Most of my stuff atm is older movies. I know it means it a good transfer... I am going to do some test on my viewing distance If I cant make out the grain, I think I may de-noise. Seems the grain is whats causing issue with high bit ...

Re: confused, bluray setting help for episodes .
Are you saying that the extra settings are good? I am using this with plex, they seem to stream with not transcoding to my roku and android phone. I ran arrow at medium, rf22 saved a chunk 1.9gb with dtshd. I will be doing side by sides to see how much of A hit it has taken. I also ran de-noise but ...

My goal is to chop down file size, but keep best quality. I have been doing good with movies, whacking them down to 10-15 gb with DTSHD / TureHD sound. I been using, Encoder tune Film, Speed medium to slower(depending show and time), Profile high, Level 4.0, RF 18, Extra options Ref=5;bframes=5. Sur...

Re: Telecined material filter help.
The detelecine filter is prone to false positive detection of telecine with PAL sources. When this happens it causes stutter in the encoded output. So I always turn it off for sources that I know are not telecined. Care to enlighten me on how to tell, or is my info about spot on in this regard? Tha...

Encoder speeds questions
I have been doing a lot of reading, and seeing a lot of charts. This seems to be my conclusion: Slower encoder speeds for x264 when using constant quality (RF) 1 of these outcomes (listed in what I believe to be the most true to most false) Slower speeds = smaller file size. Slower speeds = better v...

Re: Telecined material filter help.
Yes, decomb default, detelecine default, same as source framerate, and VFR will generally do the right thing. So if I left it as you have stated, As I have it now, It does not matter if its hard or soft telecined or if its not telecined? It will work when it needs too, and not work when its not nee...

Telecined material filter help.
First encode I learned on was Hard telecined. I could see lines easily on screen. If i leave the settings I made for this encode the same will it just work for others that are not telecined? From what I understand This is how you fix dvds that are telecined, and how to tell what they are. fps settin...

Re: questions for first time huge project. long winded but formatted
Thanks for the feedback, Yea I get that still images are not the best, when in motion stuff may look better or worse. It just seemed like a quick way to compare two different outputs With side by side images of a complex sense. I was thinking at 1/2 the size if I could see a difference at my viewing...

Feel free to shot me links or web pages, I have looked I may have over looked some stuff tho. My question are first, about me and my project are 2nd, you may not need any of the background info.
