Re: Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

I didn't notice until now, but are you sure the filters-off is faster? According to your log, filters on: [00:06:28] work: average encoding speed for job is 43.541725 fps vs filters off: [13:54:11] work: average encoding speed for job is 36.168522 fps With filters on it completed faster. Which is n...

Code: Select all

[00:06:29] decomb: deinterlaced 2497 | blended 10299 | unfiltered 122372 | total 135168
It detected combing, quite a fair bit, in fact.
Guess that was not a good example then. Oh well.

Re: Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

Yes, it seems you can, this time. Run it both ways and post both encode logs. I would like to see how much time it really saves you. For me, the prospect of having to render twice saves me mercifully from the temptation to create non-failsafe presets that "may" save a fraction of time -- ...

Re: Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

I'm guessing that interlacing is no longer be done on blu-ray or dvds MOST DVD and Blu Ray formats are interlaced by the specifications. Rather than guessing, this information is readily available to you. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray thanks for t...

Re: Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

To be fair, iterlacing is a convoluted subject. For example, by the spec *all* DVDs are interlaced. But most movies on DVD are encoded with soft telecine which is 100% reversible. So you can easily retrieve the original progressive frames (which HandBrake does for soft telecined content). Some BDs ...

Re: Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

Finally, based on your settings, I'd be inclined to drop the Decomb / Interlace Detection by turning those off. You'll get a small speed boost doing and I highly doubt you'll need those on for that source. Can you explain a little more about when to turn off Decomb? It sounded like from what I read...

Re: Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

Either is fine. Performance will be the same. Thank you! Still would like to hear from zorin 1 as to how the x265 encoding with Handbrake compares to x264 and if it saturates all the 12 cores  Waiting to pull the trigger on a new motherboard and processor to make a Handbrake workstation and ...

To be clear it's using 12 of 12 cores, although 3 of them only to 75-90%... basically exactly the diminishing gains the docs talk about.
thanks, so it is limitation of ffmpeg and how they implemented threading to handle the work load.

Ryzen 9 3900x X264 not maxing out all cores

Description of problem or question: I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 9 3900x and I noticed that 3 of my cores are not being fully maximized. All but 3 of my cores are pegged at 4.+ Ghz while 3 are jumping around 3 - 3.6Ghz. I'm just wondering if this was normal. I know that Handbrake is using the ffm...

The movie is kind of grainy, so I will try the Filter setting that you suggested.

Re: Handbrake creates larger file than sorce with RF set at 18

You're asking handbrake to store more detail than the original video had, so it's taking up more space. If you're starting with a Bluray source, RF=20 will still be overkill. Remember, the SMALLER the RF number, the BIGGER the output file, and lower RF values will not get you better resolution than...

Re: nightly build H.264 (Nvdia NVEnc)

I was just hoping to reduce the rendering time by using the video card or the on cpu graphics. I just want the same quality. When I use the onboard graphics it crashes, from the bug log this seems to be a known issue with the i7-4790K.

nightly build H.264 (Nvdia NVEnc)

Description of problem or question: I have been playing around with the nightly build because I wanted to try NVEnc for encoding.
