Re: Too high ETA for a DVD source on HEVC Matroska encode
I think I have changed my stance regarding crop. It looks a little better after the encode from 4:3 source, but I kept aspect ratio.

Re: Too high ETA for a DVD source on HEVC Matroska encode
I think I found my preferred settings: RF=16 Profile: ultrafast Disable Crop Keep Aspect ratio Avg. FPS 45 ETA 1h20m (+15min ripping with MakeMKV) HEVC Matroska Source: DVD9 Target: ~1GB It is an very old DVD movie. Perhaps not much to get from lower RF or slower profile. Now I can begin to clear so...

Re: Too high ETA for a DVD source on HEVC Matroska encode
I set RF=16, With the Preset slider to medium. Avg 4FPS ETA 12 hours With RF=16 and Preset to "faster", I got avg. 12FPS and ETA 4 hours. With RF=16 and Preset to "superfast", I got avg. 20FPS and ETA 2.5 hours. Preset: Adjusts encoder settings to trade off compression efficiency...

Re: Too high ETA for a DVD source on HEVC Matroska encode
Why is the Packman build broken? This is the Packman RPM spec file that built the 1.0.7 https://pmbs.links2linux.de/package/view_file/Multimedia/handbrake/handbrake.spec?expand=1 Sadly though there are no other repositories for OpenSUSE that has built HandBrake. Not sure why... Could try to build it...

Re: Too high ETA for a DVD source on HEVC Matroska encode
HandBrake 1.0.7 is the latest from the Packman repositories for OpenSUSE.
I will try with RF=20. All I wanted was to preserve the original DVD quality.
I think I will try Woodstock's suggestion. I could rip several DVDs fast, then set HandBrake to encode them all.

Too high ETA for a DVD source on HEVC Matroska encode
Description of problem or question: Tried HandBrake to use HandBrake to rip and encode my DVDs to HEVC (without loss of quality). Chose the Preset Matroska - H.265 MKV 576p25. Changed the quality factor from 20 to 12. Added one subtitle Nothing else changed. My FPS is abysmal, at only avg 3.75 Enco...
