Re: Translation issue
Hi hnsteyding, thanks for your findings. But, what version of HandBrake you are talking about, a stable version or a snapshot build? Please note, that for snapshot builds it is quite normal that not all strings are translated all the time. Strings for translation will be added to Resources.resx and ...

Re: HandBrake 1.4.0 Source Code
Sorry if I interrupt here, but git submodule update --init --recursive will not work with the source code archive, because it is not a proper git clone which contains the .git folder. If you copy the HandBrake git repo it will contain the file /HandBrake/.git/config which contains the entry [submodu...

Re: Call for help: VideoToolbox and constant quality
Maybe the encoding is done on the T2 chip rather than the Intel UHD graphics? I was hoping my AMD Radeon GPU would be used for the encode. I also don't have CQ if I force the T2 to be used for the encode. I have one more: MacBook Pro 15" 2016 macOS 10.14.6 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7 Radeon Pro 455 ...

I didn't expect there would be so few replies to this topic TBH. I can ask some Mac users I know to help and then post the results here. Re: Looking for Recommendations: External 4K BluRay Drive (USB)
I had the same question some month ago. After reading a lot in the MakeMKV forum, I decided for a Asus BW-16D1HT and an external USB adaptor for my UHD BluRays. But, the firmware is very important. Read in the MakeMKV forum, which version is best and downgrade, if your firmware is too new. And, if U...

Re: 7.1 audio for Apple TV 4K possible?
You could try, if AAC works for you. AAC in HandBrake supports 7.1 channels, and AppleTV 4k supports AAC.
The EAC3 7.1 issue needs to be fixed in FFmpeg. https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/issues/1085

Re: Reducing video file size without losing much image quality
If you use x265, the "Slower" preset is the first one, where all the x265 magic is starting to happen. But, it takes a very long time to encode.

I can confirm, that with the patch applied, the video from above opens and converts nicely in HandBrake.Rodeo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 10:45 pm Fix sent, it may take a week or so for it to be available in nightly builds.

Re: how to get h256 main10 'high' setting
If you want to force high tier for x265, you need to add to the additional options in the video tab.
https://x265.readthedocs.io/en/default/cli.html
However, HandBrake will normally choose the best option for you.

Re: Tune custom NLMeans parameters
So, tomorrow evening I will know how the complete movie looks like with denoising. First movie with mentioned NLMeans parameters is done. And I'm quite impressed about HandBrakes NLMeans implementation. :) I haven't been very involved with denoising yet, but the movie does seem to have different ki...

Re: Tune custom NLMeans parameters
Thanks for the info. Encoding time has increased from about 35 hours (without NLMeans) to around 49 hours (with NLMeans). So, tomorrow evening I will know how the complete movie looks like with denoising.

Re: Tune custom NLMeans parameters
Thanks Bradley. What will happen, if temporal frames for film content will exceed 3? Will it introduce ghosting? I increased the spatial search range a bit, but it seems, this also massively reduced encoding speed. While changing the value for spatial search range, I noticed, that I did not used an ...

Re: Tune custom NLMeans parameters
But, in my test, I'm more happy with the results that HQDN3D y-spatial=1:cb-spatial=0:cr-spatial=0:y-temporal=7:cb-temporal=7:cr-temporal=7 does give me. No, I'm not, this was a false estimation. I tested with different parts of the movie and a lot of different parameters for NLMeans. And overall y...

Re: Tune custom NLMeans parameters
So, I did some tests. ffmpeg -i input.mkv -filter_complex removegrain=m0=17,removegrain=m0=17,deflate=threshold0=50000,deflicker=size=8:mode=gm -crf 0 output.mkv did remove the noise nicely, but I had a big loss in details. After removing one removegrain and the deflate part, I still had a little no...

Thanks BradleyS. This sounds like a time-consuming task. I will try your suggested way with the entire movie (will possibly take some days), and let you know. I have two movies with the same sort oft noise.

Re: Deblock setting, formerly 5
In 1.3.0 the pp7 Deblock filter was replaced with FFmpeg Deblock filter.

But, I have no idea how the parameters of the pp7 deblock filter compare with the FFmpeg Deblock filter.

Tune custom NLMeans parameters
I have two BluRay movies which do have bad noise in it. It is a noise that flickers around in the movie very annoyingly (“dancing dots”). The result is, that the encoded movie has 20 GB in size (compared to 5 GB that my non-grainy cartoons normally do have). So, I was testing different NLMeans prese...

Re: What is the gear option in the Audio Tab
This writes the 3gpp track 'titl' tag to your movie. In ffmpeg this is shown as "handler_name" and Mediainfo shows it as "title".
