Interestingly, I recently upgraded my Linux distro to 17.10 and both of these issues have been resolved.
Thanks everyone for your efforts.

Now that worked. What is the best way to send you the files. I have them zipped up.

Re: No Multiple Queue and Return to Current Folder
OK, I added the PPA for the nightly builds, and updated and upgraded, and then verified that the Nightly Build was installed. I then tried an Add Multiple, and Handbrake crashed, though no error message for Ubuntu this time. I am thinking now that it is something with my system, though it is a prett...

Would you suggest that I try nightly builds, or might that complicate issues?

I choose select all, and all non-duplicate items are marked. Then I select Start Encoding and nothing happens for a bit, the...

No Multiple Queue and Return to Current Folder
There are two issues I have noticed in Handbrake v 1.04. When I try to add multiple items to the queue, Handbrake crashes. This has worked for me in previous versions, but not in 1.04. Because I have to do items one at a time, when an encode finishes I select Open Source again, but this leads me to ...
