Re: ffmpeg-6.x supported?

Nope. I'm a buff of old pre-60 movies. I do not own any HDR TV sets.

Re: ffmpeg-6.x supported?

I fully understand what you mean. However, as I use NVEnc for video output and audio is either passthru or processed separately (not encoded in Handbrake) I think FFmpeg is used only for decoding the input video and it seems to be working fine now.

Thanks even more! I rebuilt the system FFmpeg with --enable-libzimg (USE=zimg) and the problem is solved. :)

Re: ffmpeg-6.x supported?

Thanks. Unfortunately Gentoo ebuild does not have the option to use embedded FFmpeg. Maybe this ebuild allows adding custom build options easily, need to investigate. Other options are creating a custom ebuild or build by hand from git.

This will lower the priority but it still will use all available resources. (There are more complicated ways to limit CPU usage.)

Re: Ctrl+Q exit

Thank you! Ctrl+Q is much easier to access than Alt+F4. As a matter of fact, it is less effort to use mouse than hit Alt+F4. While X is not really Linux, it is still part of FOSS, which, unlike commercial software, is user friendly by nature.

I'm a keyboard user, Handbrake is the only application in my PC which does not terminate with Ctrl+Q. Would it be too much to ask? Every time I want to close Handbrake my hand hits Ctrl+Q a few times before brain catches up ...

Re: Converting MOV to mp4 color changed massively HELP

Woodstock, why should anyone re-encode HEVC to HEVC using same resolution and bitness? There will be negative impact on quality and for high definition video this is enormous load for CPU, when done in software. May help to keep house warm in winter, all that heat coming from your CPU doing this use...

Re: Converting MOV to mp4 color changed massively HELP

Unless you want to change some video or audio parameters - NO. Set video to 'Copy' and audio to 'Copy', then choose your new container (MP4). Avidemux will warn you if there is a compatibility issue.

Re: Converting MOV to mp4 color changed massively HELP

rachels, as with everything in life, knowing what you do does help to get best results. You need MP4 instead of MOV, these are containers, wrapping video and audio into one file. In simplest case you do not need to re-encode (convert) anything, just remux your MOV into MP4. Handbrake is not the tool...

Re: SRT subtitles passthru, crippled SSA

Good question. I haven't read the specs, but since both quite sophisticated editors assume this zero to be there then even if it not in the specs it would be nice to have it, don't you agree?
I've filed a bug, #3580.

Re: SRT subtitles passthru, crippled SSA

OK, I found the crucial difference. I created an one-line SSA file for testing. There is a leading zero missing in Dialogue lines in Handbrake created file. Probably should file a bug, although players seem to cope with it? ~/work $ diff handbrake.ssa editor.ssa 14,15c14,15 < Format: Layer, Start, E...

Re: SRT subtitles passthru, crippled SSA

Thanks for responses. From manual I learned the SRT>SSA conversion is not configurable, the word "passthru" is simply incorrect, although used in Handbrake configuration. The output is MKV, I was under impression MP4 container does not support SRT? Woodstock reply implies it can, interesti...

SRT subtitles passthru, crippled SSA

Running on Gentoo, 64-bit, Handbrake 1.3.3. SRT subtitles passthru is not working, Handbrake is converting SRT into SSA instead. The real problem is the SSA file Handbrake is producing cannot be opened in subtitle editors, I tried with Gaupol and Aegisub. Bot give an error, they do not recognize the...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

If you're that happy with lower res/low quality, you'd probably be happy with a veryfast x264 encode that would deliver about the same. First, I did not say lower quality. These old movies may be "blown up" to 1080, but if the source itself does not have all the fine details then 720 or p...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

Final thoughts. I have a bunch of old movies, around 2 GB each, 1080p. Using this card and H.265 NVEnc I've recoded/resized some of them to 720p. Reducing the file size about 2-3 times. The result is surprising. These movies actually look better after recode! Using CQ=28 is rather aggressive, some f...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

Now I tried on a BR rip. Aiming for smaller output file. When encoded with CQ=28 there is some loss of fine details. Noticing it required rather close examination on PC screen. For me it wasn't noticeable on TV screen, but this is subjective opinion.

NVEnc with CQ=28
This size is comparable to SW encoding, what do you think?

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

Well, changing CQ has substantial impact on file size. H.265 test file using NVEnc: CQ=15 > size 157 MB CQ=20 > 72 MB CQ=23 > 46 MB The source is a 1080i file. Same file encoded using software encoding is 20 MB. I'm afraid this NVEnc is good for streaming, but not so good for archiving where quality...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

I just purchased 1660, tried NVEnc and was impressed - with speed. More testing needs to be done to see how it looks quality wise.

Are there any tips about settings somewhere?

Re: DRC disabled

Thanks. I have 200+ avi files here to recode, most of these files have about -10 dB peak audio level, unfortunately it varies, so I cannot use fixed gain. Any ideas how to batch process them without analyzing every single file for audio level?
