Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

If you're that happy with lower res/low quality, you'd probably be happy with a veryfast x264 encode that would deliver about the same. First, I did not say lower quality. These old movies may be "blown up" to 1080, but if the source itself does not have all the fine details then 720 or perhaps eve...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

Final thoughts. I have a bunch of old movies, around 2 GB each, 1080p. Using this card and H.265 NVEnc I've recoded/resized some of them to 720p. Reducing the file size about 2-3 times. The result is surprising. These movies actually look better after recode! Using CQ=28 is rather aggressive, some f...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

Now I tried on a BR rip. Aiming for smaller output file. When encoded with CQ=28 there is some loss of fine details. Noticing it required rather close examination on PC screen. For me it wasn't noticeable on TV screen, but this is subjective opinion.

NVEnc with CQ=28
This size is comparable to SW encoding, what do you think?

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

Well, changing CQ has substantial impact on file size. H.265 test file using NVEnc: CQ=15 > size 157 MB CQ=20 > 72 MB CQ=23 > 46 MB The source is a 1080i file. Same file encoded using software encoding is 20 MB. I'm afraid this NVEnc is good for streaming, but not so good for archiving where quality...

Re: GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

I just purchased 1660, tried NVEnc and was impressed - with speed. More testing needs to be done to see how it looks quality wise.

Are there any tips about settings somewhere?

Re: DRC disabled

Thanks. I figured it requires more than Handbrake can offer, but asking never hurts. Thanks for your hard work, Handbrake is most useful tool. :)

Re: DRC disabled

Thanks. I have 200+ avi files here to recode, most of these files have about -10 dB peak audio level, unfortunately it varies, so I cannot use fixed gain. Any ideas how to batch process them without analyzing every single file for audio level?

Thanks, this explains it. What about --normalize-mix, will it work on MP3 input?

DRC disabled

I'm running Gentoo. The DRC function of my Handbrake 1.0.7 (x86_64) is disabled. I wonder what is missing, is it some ffmpeg option I need to enable?

--normalize-mix

--normalize-mix Normalize audio mix levels to prevent clipping. ^^ From help. The only information i was able to find. Can anyone explain how it works, please? What if the audio is too soft, will it increase the level? If yes, then what the new peak level will be? 0 dB, -3 dB, something else?

Re: Segfault when loading SRT

Whoops, I think I missed that. I just pulled git and ran configure, it did not complain about anything missing. Then I tried make and saw it downloading bundled stuff. So I figured it won't use anything I already had in system. I see I was wrong ...

OK, I tried to build it today. Re: MKV tags

This is HandBrake support, not mkvmerge. Thanks. Using mkvmerge was my workaround, didn't you see the word workaround ? And if I found the option in mkvmerge, why should I still be asking? Sorry, your replay is not making sense. I posted my solution because this is how community works, someone with...

This is my workaround, it seems there is no option to mux without tags?

Re: How can I batch convert files in a directory, using a custom preset and preserving the structure of any sub-director

Today morning I needed to convert about 200 files in a directory, below is how I did it. I hope it gets you started.

Code: Select all

for i in *.mkv ;
do HandBrakeCLI -i "$i" -g --nlmeans=light --nlmeans-tune film -f av_mkv -e x265 -q 22 --vfr -E opus -B 64 -o "new/${i%mkv}mkv" ;
done

Segfault when loading SRT

Is Handbrake supposed to handle SRT in MKV container? When I load an MKV file with SRT muxed into it and choose Passthru first I get a warning "this is not a regular file" and if I proceed with "Start Encoding" Handbrake crashes with segmentation fault. Running version 1.0.7 64-bit on Gentoo. It wou...
