Re: How to shrink the file size but not loose the quality?
There is always a compromise between image quality, file size and compression speed. If you want excellent quality then you will get a large file size. If you want a small file size then you get reduced quality. What you could do is to perform a test: process the same exact disc using each of these ...

Re: Best performing OS for Handbrake
Handbrake seems to be optimized to max out at six CPUs, according to various independent tests I read online. After that you get massive diminishing returns or no return at all. I have never seen any one OS perform significantly better than any other OS and yes macOS does support Intel hardware acce...

Re: Some questions about best compression for 4K and Blu-Ray
You can also output the file from FCPX into Compressor and get excellent (professional) results. Blu-ray discs support 24, 25 and 30 fps.

Re: Some new DVDs don't rip on Mac
There is no guarantee that MakeMKV or any other free standing ripping app will work, they fail at times as well. Make sure the disc is clean and scratch free, install the latest version of Handbrake and anything else associated with it, reboot and try again, it might work lol

Re: Handbrake 1.1.0 Issues And LIBDVDCSS Requirement
I'm not seeing any problem in 10.13.5 at all. I suggest that you remove Handbrake and everything associated with Handbrake, reboot then install a fresh copy of the latest version of everything and then it should work as expected.

Re: To rip first or not
There is no visible difference in quality if you rip first or rip afterwards, There is no need to use MakeMKV, which does work well but does not result in any difference in image quality. MakeMKV requires you to re-dwonload it every month because its in Beta, which is an unnecessary step if you use ...

Re: 47 attempts to rip a DVD
This is definitely an odd one! Just FYI for others that might stumble onto this thread: Install the latest version of Handbrake that is version 1.0.0 or above (it has a lot of fixes i it) then update your system to process DVDs and Blu-rays as follows:

Re: Did Sierra break Handbreak?
You can upgrade your system to handle the DVD/Blu-ray disc then it will automatically hand it off to Handbrake to do the transcoding. Its actually completely reliable and simple (because its a one step process). MakeMkV is a nice too l but its still in BETA which means that by definition it might no...

Re: Handbrake no longer able to read blu-ray disks with MakeMKV extensions in ~/lib
It does work just fine, Handbrake will use any extension/plug-in that becomes available to it on startup. The MakeMKV software expires and has to be renewed every month, which is a pain. Another way to do it is via the following instructions: [Removed by moderator] This also can be done for DVDs, so...

Re: Handbrake 1.0.1: why can't I output max picture size?
A simple experiment is to update to the latest version of Handbrake (I found that 1.0.7 fixes a lot of issues), then select any preset you want and hit Start. Compare this video to what you have been getting and let us know what the difference is.

Double-click on the icon in the Dock or go to the Applications folder, scroll to the Handbrake icon then double click on the icon. If you did not install Handbrake then follow the instructions as per s55's post, above.

Re: HandBrake Speed
@ivanpasic This is normal, in a way you are comparing Apples vs Oranges. Handbrake is masterful at trading off file size, image quality and processing speed. That is what those comments at the end of some posts are referring to). You can choose two of those three options but not all three. Install t...

Re: Handbrake won't launch on Mac Pro (early 2009)
Try again following the latest instructions fro the Handbrake folks. Since they do not digitally sign Handbrake, the OS assumes its a potentially undesired piece of malware and blocks it. You can get it to manually launch by following their instructions (it will then launch correctly every time afte...

RipIt has not worked properly for years. Handbrake is unable to process protected discs but you can enable your system to work correctly, which makes Handbrake work as expected, with these instructions:

Re: Pb with Hanbrake and my MacBook Pro mid-2009
Handbrake is unable to process DVDs nor Blu-ray discs that have DRM, which is most likely why your output is unusable. Its is possible to make this work correctly:

Re: CPU usage
Its not a problem, high CPU utilization is what is expected when the CPUs are tackling a touch job like transcoding. The Mac will lower the CPU speeds and increase the fan speeds to keep everything in the safe zone, so there s nothing to worry about. If there is an issue then the system will automat...

Re: Just a General Question About Handbrake and Blu-Ray Encoding
Speed is limited to how fast your machine is, the OP has a Core 2 Duo which is no where near as fast as today's i7 are, then there is the issue of how fast the Blu-ray drive is. The factory will offer a claim that its capable of 2x or 4x or more (so it could transfer data a lot faster) however Riplo...

Re: MP4 conversion works but audio stops after approx. minute 42
Some DRM uses that technique (of dropping audio after a while) so you would have to use a newer method of decoding that can deal with that issue.

Re: Copying a DVD to disk to use handbrake on the folder
DVDs are often made in a way to prevent doing what you are trying to do. Just use software that specifically creates DVD disc images to your hard drive/SSD, then you can use Handbrake on that image. Creating a DVD image plus running it through Handbrake takes the same amount of time (or longer) as j...

Re: different resolution
I now use the 1080 preset for all the media I process in Handbrake 1.07 and it always comes out just as it came in (i.e. 1080p comes out 1080p, 720p comes out 720p and 480i comes out 480i) without any changes, which make sit super convenient to just throw content in there (after I sent the 1080 pres...
